About this listen

She's trying to tell you - if only you'd listen...

About to break the news to his wife, Diane, that he's infertile, criminology expert Harper Penn gets a call to say she's been rushed to hospital with a miscarriage. Five days later, when Diane fails to return from the village shop, police think she must have taken off with a secret lover, but Harper is convinced the online messages are not from her.

In the same Hampshire village, plucky seven-year-old Clara has retreated into a make-believe world after an accident. Then she, too, goes missing.

As Harper sets out on a desperate quest to find them both, he has no idea what he's up against. Could the threat be closer than he thinks? And is there a hidden message in Clara's fairytales?

Dark Place to Hide is a chilling psychological mystery with a cold-blooded deviant lurking at the core.

So gripping

A fantastic book I was gripped from the beginning, you become so invested in the characters I wanted it to keep going with the story. The reader has an unusual pace that I had to get used to but his different voices were great .

Oh dear

Good storyline quite fast pace and characters realistic and likeable BUT the narrator had a very clipped abrupt voice.I did think I would have to give up on it but in the end I increased the reading speed which made listening more acceptable, sorry narrator, just personal taste

OMG I am so bored!

if I had known this was the same author as Girl on a Train I would not have bought it. I am 10 chapters in and it is so dull I can bear no more. It is as slow and tedious as Girl on a Train, 10 chapters of listening to a husband talking about his life and his relationships with his parents and his missing wife. Apparently it builds into a tense psychological story, but reviews said that about the other book.....and they lied!! I'm just listening to him describing the second bedroom being used as a study and there being too much chilli in a Bolognese whilst trying to stay awake. I'm done with it
