Summary
Aliens. Armageddon. President Mel Gibson?
America is in trouble, dudes.
The country is in ruins after the president walls it up, sealing it like a giant prison. The rich get richer and the poor starve to death in the streets. Enter the Invaders, a secret society led by a charismatic and flawlessly handsome dude named Dave. Their mission: Destroy the forces in D.C. and take back the U.S.A.!
Starlet Richter is your typical transgender American woman. After years of watching the place fall apart, she’s gonna do something about it. Eric Tisdsale is Starlet’s long-lost love. He’s making a pretty mundane living as a pool shark, until one phone call changes everything.
Will they save each other? Themselves? The world? How about when they discover the president is not actually human, and there may be more of his kind hiding among us?
"The worst thing you'll hear all year!" raves the general population.
"Fake News!" cries D.T.

A Futuristic Romp
*Please note - This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.*
I feel torn over this review because on the one hand I did enjoy this fast-paced and very silly book, with quite a bit of biting satire (especially near the start) and some great ideas. I especially liked the e-mail correspondence at the start. There are some moments of toilet/obscene humour, which is not really my type of thing, but it wasn't enough to put me off the book and I thought the narration was great. I did find it a little confusing at one point where there was a jump in time and I at first thought I must have missed something.
However my big problem with this title is that it is only the first of three parts of the book 'Dave', so it is both shorter than I would have liked and (in my opinion at least) ended mid-story. More importantly it means the whole book costs three credits. When I compare that to all the 5 star books I can buy with one credit this makes it seem too expensive to me, which is a real shame as I did enjoy it.
So in conclusion I would definitely read another of the author's books and I think this is (so far at least) a fun story, but not three credits worth.

" Ha, ha, ha, ha. Bleep, bloop. "
Would you listen to DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders again? Why?
I just loved this book. Great narration of a funny, funky, irreverent, dystopian, almost stream of consciousness, piece of writing, it made me laugh out loud - something I do far too infrequently nowadays.
It starts as a chain email letter in which recipients are invited to say something about themselves then pass it on; but it pretty soon gets hijacked by a single author for his own ongoing story. Set some 15 years into a future where Mel Gibson is President and the USA is completely surrounded by the wall started by Trump, it pours out a soliloquy of angst against the powers that be, social isolation and interaction, loves and dislikes, moral (and immortal) disintegration and the subject's own recruitment into a spurious attempt to back the enigmatic Dave in his attempt to wrest the power for himself and hopefully his followers. Oh, did I mention the aliens? All as the email writer goes about his daily business.
.
As narrator, David Dear is perfect, capturing the fast talking, rather supercilious tones of the main email author. Slick and delicious, the underlying humour just oozes from his voice. I have not heard this narrator before but will certainly look out for him in the future.
As I will also look for more by Marc Richard.
Do not buy this book if you are repelled by sexual innuendo, irreverent takes on life and society and are shocked by slight dalliances with political incorrectness. Nor if you insist on a simple, straightforward story. But if this isn't you, go get this book now and enjoy. I'm off to look for Dave II.
Thank you so much to the rights holder from whom I received a complimentary copy of Dave, part 1, the Invaders, via Audiobook Boom. It has really brightened my day
