About this listen
Working as a janitor at an insane asylum in rural Idaho has Jim in the dumps. One night, his attempted suicide is rudely interrupted by one of the residents, and he's recruited to play a game called Cryptofauna. The bizarre contest of worldwide mischief and meddling might actually help the blue custodian discover a reason to live, if he can survive the deadly trials that await....
“If Alice and Wonderland and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy had a love child, it’d be Cryptofauna. This fantasy novel creates an acid dream of lovable characters, tense twists, and a storyworld unlike any I’ve experienced...it’s a beautiful story, funny at times, ridiculous in the best possible way, intense and action packed." (Nico Bell Writes)
“Every so often, you come across a book that leaves you wondering if you should be looking into psychedelic drugs, because you realize that your reality is rather limited. This is definitely one of those books...one of the strangest, most intriguing things I've ever read.” (Songs Wrote my Story)
“Cryptofauna is fantastically strange, it's so funny and I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. But it's also deep and poignant and [the] attention to detail is superb.” (Rae’s Reading Lounge)

An Amazingly Absurd Adventure!
If you like weird adventures this is for you. We explore the world of Cryptogamia through the eyes of a janitor dropped into this new and absurd world were you take your socks off last and through the story you grow to root for Jim and his combo to overcome the tasks given and hurdles met.
I loved this book. Cryptofauna lives up to its name it's a fun journey of mysteries and weird but likeable characters. My favourite character was Zoe and all her brothers I hope that I'll hear more from these characters in the future.
Not only was the book funny but the narrator was really good he made distinct voices for each of the characters that made listening a pleasure.

Fun book that revels in it's own absurdity
The premise of this book is a fairly odd one at times, but the author manages to tread the fine line between taking it seriously and enjoying the absurdity of the situation with a wide variety of strange and interesting characters and weird situations.
The cast of characters is a varied one and they all grow on you quite quickly, helping you to be very effectively drawn into the book that much easier.
The performance of the narrator is an effective one, nicely enhancing the story and ensuring that the wide range of characters are sufficiently distinctive too.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would not be disappointed to see the author return to this world he has created in the future even though this book is a standalone one.

Is there going to be more? Please say yes!
"Alice in wonderland meets Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" is a excellent description of this book. If you like those, you'll LOVE this book. Such a fun ride with lovable characters which are voiced fantastically by the narrator. Highly recommend you pick up this book - i don't want to give too much away in my review of it!

An interesting listen.
This was overall a good book, I didn't find it particularly gripping but it was interesting enough to keep me listening to the end, Steve White's narration helped as he brought the characters to life well. No spoilers at all from me but this book is unpredictable and a little weird, amusing and crazy in places. Worth a listen if you are in to this kind of genre.
I was kindly given a copy of this book by the author and leave this honest and unbiased review.
