About this listen
From the pen of the winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama! The Crump family is adrift and in trouble. Widowed Godfrey is under the spell of Sweet Father Divine, while his teen daughters, Ernestine and Ermina, immerse themselves in the illusions of Hollywood to escape racial prejudice. But things change quickly when free-spirited Aunt Lily shows up: Godfrey remarries a white woman, Ermina discovers boys, and Ernestine is torn between Communism and bebop! Playwright Lynn Nottage received the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner for her play Ruined.
An L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring (in alphabetical order): Deidrie Henry as Ernestine Crump; Russell Hornsby as Godfrey Crump; Tinashe Kajese as Ermina Crump; Kate Steele as Gerte; and Charlayne Woodard as Lily Ann Green. Directed by Seret Scott. Recorded before a live audience at the Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles, in December 2009.

Crumbs From the Table of Joy, by acclaimed playwright Lynn Nottage, winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Ruined, is a funny and touching story of a recently widowed African-American man, Godfrey Crumb, who, beset by grief and turning to a new religion, leaves Florida in 1950 and moves to culturally shifting Brooklyn with his two teenage daughters. There, the family finds love, prejudice, politics, pain, and sweet jazz.
This poetic urban play of endurance and redemption is performed in front of a live audience by a dynamic cast of capable theater veterans, including Russell Hornsby, Deidrie Henry, and Tinashe Kajese.
