About this listen
So far I have two possible fates: Die in my dorm or end up as a vampire’s slave.
There is no escape out of Nocturnal Academy's prison school. Being here means I’ve lost my mother, my best friend, and my freedom - and it gets worse...
Now Nocturnal Academy plans to make me into a courtesan for the vampires. Unless I get a win the chance to become the one out of 100 fae who gets to shape her own fate. Topping the Placement Tests are my only hope.
But between a mysterious vampire guard confusing my feelings, my nemesis circling in on me like a viper, and a teacher who hates my guts, all my plans are falling apart. If I’m not careful, I won’t even end up as a courtesan, but as dead meat.
Warning: This audiobook contains mature content and possible triggering situations and is therefore only suitable for mature YA and New Adult listeners. We recommend Nocturnal Academy for listeners 17 and up.
Cruel Elites is a mature YA/New Adult fae academy novel and the first audiobook in the Nocturnal Academy trilogy.

Really Enjoyed it
I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.
Despite a strange start I’ve really enjoyed this book. It feels like this is actually the second book in the series and you’ve missed a whole heap of information but you do get given this throughout the book. There’s apparently a prequel which has this story so I think I’ll have to get to this at some point to get the full story as it’s sometimes a little bit frustrating not always knowing more as to why Onyx wants to keep people away from her such as Lily and just how much Thorsten has helped her.
Onyx character is really interesting and it’s nice to see her make some mistakes as well as growing as a person and character and her relationship with Thorsten is equally intriguing. There’s so many questions and mystery around him and I’m looking forward to finding out more about his background and why he’s always there.
I’m definitely interested to be reading the second book

know where you stand
Onyx did not notice that Nocturnal Academy was ruled by vampires. I love that Onyx was a strong women and looks out for her friend. this book was well written and I fell in love with this story and all of the characters were easy to follow. I would also love to see if Thorsten will continue to see if he will her knight in shining armor

Awsome
This book is totally brilliant, it had me hooked from the first page. Onyx is a super sassy heroine who does have a caring side to her. I cannot wait to read the next book. Unfortunately i found the narrator a little irritating but, the book is well worth reading.

Surviving your first term
Cruel Elites has a good story and writing style.
Onyx is a strong character with compassion that she has to mask behind indifference. This world is harsh with vampires calling the shots while the fae have to hope to be good enough to not have a dismal existence.
I had two favorite parts, and they were how the story starts and than ends. Book 2 promises to amp up the plot.
I listened to this on Audible and it was a fun way to enjoy it.

Cruel Elites
This was a very interesting book. The Vamps are high in power and the Fae are low treated like servants. If they can only survive the first term in the academy.

Intriguing
All I wanted to do was binge on the book, Onyx has a way of finding and navigating herself through trouble.
Looking to see how far she goes with trouble in the next book

Interesting World
I received a free audiobook from the author and the review group Audiobx in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
At Nocturnal Academy, the Fae students are ruled by the Vampire elite. Fae students go through their classes and learn vampire history, and how to serve the vampires. At the end of the semester, they're put through a series of tests that determines their major of study. Three options are left for them: servants, magical entertainment or courtesan. Onyx is slated for the courtesan track, but she refuses to become a blood or sex slave for the vampires. Her only bet is to best everyone in the tests and win independent study. But after accidentally killing a fae prince and awakening her frost magic, Onyx has several things to hide and the local mean girl Peony knows one of her secrets.
This was kind of a depressing world? Like there really isn't much hope for the fae unless they have plant magic. Onyx also constantly alludes to danger if her frost magic is exposed, but we never quite find out why exactly having this type of magic is dangerous. I don't know if there even are consequences for frost magic so I wish that had been explained more.
Onyx was also really rude to her roommate in order to protect her and it really threw me off. Sure Onyx was targeted for bullying from the other students, but it never seemed to extend to Lily just because she was friends with Onyx. Onyx's fears are based on what happened to her ex-roommate, but that seemed like a completely different situation to me.
I did enjoy Onyx's character. She was really headstrong and determined which I liked. Her relationship, if you can even call it that, with Thorsten was fascinating. He would act like a decent vampire one scene, but then say the most scathing things to her and wow I cannot figure him out for my life. But I am seriously fascinated.
Overall, I have a lot of questions about the world and some of Onyx's motivations, but I'm curious to see what she'll do next.

Academy romance
I absolutely loved this book, I'm so excited this is only the beginning of what promises to be a fabulous series. The plot is intense with the fae all competing for one chance to become independant - and the competition is cut throat, the characters are are easy to become invested in, I was hooked from the beginning and finished the book in one sitting, I can't wait 'til book 2 is available on audiobook.
