Summary

Introducing Luke Carlton - ex-Special Boat Service commando and now under contract to MI6 for some of its most dangerous missions. Sent into the steaming Colombian jungle to investigate the murder of a British intelligence officer, Luke finds himself caught up in the coils of a plot that has terrifying international dimensions.

Hunted down, captured, tortured and on the run from one of South America's most powerful and ruthless drugs cartels and its psychotic leader thirsting for revenge, Luke is in a life-or-death race against time to prevent a disaster on a truly terrifying scale: London is the target, the weapon is diabolical and the means of delivery is ingenious.

Drawing on his years of experience in reporting on security matters, Crisis is Frank Gardner's debut novel. Combining insider knowledge, up-to-the-minute hardware, fly-on-the-wall insights and heart-in-mouth excitement, Crisis boasts an irresistible, visceral frisson of authenticity: smart, fast-paced and furiously entertaining, here is a thriller for the 21st century.

A gripping well-researched thriller

The authenticity of the story, the setting and the characters was impressive and retained my attention throughout. The technical details were presented in enough detail without being overwhelming or impeding the flow of the story. I very much hope Frank Gardiner will write more such enjoyable books.

Excellent story spoiled by a poor narrator.

Excellent story spoiled by a poor narrator. I found John Sackville's voice didn't fit the story.

I really liked the story and will listen to another of Frank Gardener's books so long as he picks a different narrator.

Page turning, undemanding yarn -but, Lordy, the accents...

Page turning, undemanding yarn -but, Lordy, the accents... Columbians defaulting to some pitch variation of Speedy Gonzalez, and a baddy whose voice is so pantomime-bad-guy I was expecting descriptions of a cape and twirling moustache.

Suspence

This was one of the best books I have listened to for many years. I found the story very interesting, very well researched and dilvered by a very capable and excellent narrator. I do hope the author writes more books like this. A great real story for today's world.

An exciting and well read action adventure

This is an excellent fiction debut from Frank Gardner. Action, adventure, politics and foreign affairs combine to create a great book. Highly recommended.
