About this listen

Often considered one of the first ever psychological thrillers, Crime and Punishment is a gripping tale of a poverty-stricken young man in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who hatches a plan to kill someone for money. Once the deed is done, he finds himself racked with guilt, confusion and disgust for his act.

In this new recording, Will Poulter (Detroit, Midsommar, The Maze Runner) gives new life to the troubled protagonist, Rodion Raskolnikov, in a performance that will have you questioning where we draw the line between right and wrong.

A definite masterpiece

The way Dostoyevsky writes is simply of a genial level. The character's psychological portrait is highly complex and marvelous, it left me open mouthed with all the vivid details. This definitely deserves 6 stars out of 5, just impeccable.

Faultless audio version

Pretty sure I don't have to rate the book, history has given it five stars. Will Poulter just nails his performance, nuance, brings real personality to each character through expression and accent. Can't fault it 22 1/2 hours I'll happily hear again.

Thought provoking and powerful story

C&P is a wonderful story that softens one's heart to the suffering of humanity. Will Poulter brought the story to life with the variety of accents/voices he displayed. Highly recommend that you listen to this tale.

Long but gripping

A truly fascinating insight into the minds, motivations, hopes fears and candour of intelligent, challenging, moralising philosophers.

Interesting story, fine performance

Well worth a listen. Some excellent passages, brilliant observations and an insight into the Russia of the time. My only criticism is the difficulty with the Russian names in their various forms. Will Poulter does a fine job of the narration.
