About this listen
When a single moment challenges your perception of truth....
Epigraphist Dr. Essie DeSpencer travels to an ancient Welsh castle in order to decipher an Ogham inscription discovered by the handsome and enigmatic Garreth ap Daffyd. But the journey is not what she expects. She doesn’t plan to fall for the lord of the castle or to find herself deeply entrenched in legends, myths, and magic.
Real legends, and real magic, that have devastating consequences. Garreth didn’t plan for Essie to stay any longer than it took her to decipher the pictograph. Instead, he finds himself falling in love for the first time in his very long life. Now, the Lord of Llys y Gwalch must find a way to attain the heart of his soul mate and keep her safe from the dangers that threaten them both.

Interesting story
Intriguing plot, and likeable characters, but a little slow paced in places. I thought there were some great ideas in this story, and the author clearly did a ton of research into old myths and legends of the British Isles (especially Wales and Ireland), however, they needed to do some modern day research too - it totally threw me when she had described her character flying from Glasgow to London to then drive back to North Wales (that last drive is longer than just driving down the motorway direct from Glasgow!). Things like this take a reader completely out of the story!
I found the American narrator mispronounced British place names in many and varied hilarious ways, and his female voices were occasionally painful, but he did a great number of different voices for the many characters, and helped keep them straight in my head. He also read the (sometimes long) descriptions in an engaging way.

Good story, but the narration let's it down
The narrators attempt at female voices is terrible, but the story is okay, a bit cheesy in parts though

Clean adventure romance with paranormal elements
This is the kind of romance that gains momentum as the plot developes. It is like slow burning embers that are coaxed to life with nurturing energy. It is more adventure than anything else, with codes to decipher and translate, mysteries to solve and enemies to uncover. It is rife with mythical creatures and has a healthy serving of humour too. It starts at quite a slow pace, as any mystery probably would, but as the pieces of the puzzle fall in place, so does the growing passion between Essie and Gareth. I will admit that I wasn't convinced I would like the story to begin with because it meandered a bit. But it slowly took shape and I found myself committed to the quest. I do wish it ended with more pizzazz but it was in keeping with the rest of the story.
