About this listen

Returning to the heart of her beloved Cornwall, Kate Ryder weaves another deliciously irresistible tale of desire, jealousy and the search for understanding, set against the stunning backdrop of the glorious Lizard Peninsula.

Globally renowned actor Oliver Foxley has made the most difficult decision of all and set the love of his life free, in order to try and bring his family back together. But there's a magnetic pull back to both Cara and Cornwall that Oliver can neither deny nor resist....

Heartbroken for a second time in her short life, single mother Cara knows she has no choice but to pick up the pieces yet again and carry on. Perhaps a complete change of scenery would help her and her young family? Yet her mind, spirit and heart yearn for the windswept shores of her Cornish Cove....

Cara and Oliver face the agonising choice between following expectations or following their hearts. How will their story end...?

simple story

very simple story so easy listen I don't like to criticise but I found the narration a little stilled

So bad ...

Bought this as I live in Cornwall but it was dreadful. Weak story about the "free spirited Cara" (how many times did it mention her free spirit?!) The descriptions sounded as though they had been copied from estate agents particulars, and the performance was appalling - I kept listening to it as I had nothing else but this was truly the worst thing I have ever had on Audible. Sorry Kate Ryder.

Hard decisions to make on the Lizard Peninsula.

I really enjoyed this 2-part series – ‘Summer in a Cornish Cove’ & ‘Cottage on a Cornish Cliff’ – and I'm so pleased I committed to both (although this book can be enjoyed as a standalone as there’s plenty of unobtrusive catching up with the earlier story). However, if I hadn’t read the first book I may not have been so sympathetic and understanding of the dilemmas both main characters now face. I kept looking for reasons to take time out from real life to enjoy the author's imagined world, so believable are her characters, and as for the descriptions of Cornwall... I'm packing my bags right now!

There were just a couple of niggles with the narration. Rachael Beresford has a lovely voice, but I believe her portrayal of a couple of the characters are not as intended. The author describes Oliver Foxley as having a deep, distinctive voice and a hard-working conscience, but sadly he comes across as pompous and stuffy. Also, Cara's mum is from London (born and bred) but she has a pronounced Cornish accent! Even if she'd resided in the county for over 30 years, I doubt she'd have a broad, local dialect! Was this a mistake, only realised too late in the recording process?

These small irritations aside, 'Cottage on a Cornish Cliff' has a storyline full of emotion and moral dilemma that will stay with me for a long time. If you haven’t treated yourself to 'Summer in a Cornish Cove' first, I strongly urge you to do so to enjoy the full experience of Cara and Oliver's journey. You won’t be disappointed!

Feel good ending to the heart rendering end to book one

This is the eventual happy ever after to the traumatic end to book one. So glad I listened to it too. I do agree with other reviews that Oliver could have sounded less pompous though, but didn’t take away from the fabulous listening.
