Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Kitty Charing's life-changing inheritance comes with a catch.

Her eccentric and childless guardian, Mr. Penicuik, is leaving Kitty all of his vast fortune - but with one condition. She must marry one of his five grand-nephews. However, Kitty's clear favourite - the rakish Jack Westruther - doesn't appear at all interested in the arrangement. To make Jack jealous, Kitty impulsively convinces his cousin, the kind-hearted and chivalrous Freddy Standen, to enter into a pretend engagement.

But the more time she spends with Freddy, the more Kitty wonders whether Jack is the right choice after all....

Cotillion narrated by Raj Ghatak

This interpretation of one of my favourite Heyer novels has only increased my enjoyment of the storyline. A great listen and one I will return to again and again.

Great book with mediocre narration

I have read this book before. It is a light, enjoyable read. Listening to this audiobook version I am not sure about how to rate it. Ghatak's voice is very pleasant, he does an excellent job of bringing the characters alive however the reading style is very disjointed. It sometimes suits the characters but most often it is very annoying. Seems like he is reading a script line-by-line. Also, towards the end of the book there are many jarring cuts, where he reads a few words at another time and it is inserted later. It could have been an awesome audiobook but for this.

The perfect Heyer

This is one of my absolute favourite Heyer novels. Freddy Standen is such a brilliant character and the story races along joyfully. The narrator did a reasonable job, his voices for the different characters were generally good but he does occasionally lose the sense of the sentences with emphasising the wrong parts. It doesn’t spoil the story though.

Absolutely fabulous 💕💕

The whole of Kitty's and Freddie's adventurous story kept me enthralled, especially with the excellent narration. Worth more than 5 stars ⭐ ❤❤❤❤

Entertaining romp

Another winner from Ms Heyer. At times laugh out loud funny. I particularly enjoyed hearing the slang of the time. Have deducted stars due to the strange robotic narration. He really does sound like the automated voice “you now have 3 options”. Don’t know why the audiobook producer did not pick up on this. Richard Armitage’s narration of another GH novel is PEERLESS in comparison and it’s a pity he wasn’t asked to do this one too.

Excellent listening

I bought this version by mistake thinking I had lost my beloved Phyllida Nash version, and at first suffered from something of a culture shock on hearing such a different voice. But I was interested to hear a fresh interpretation and gradually found there were still plenty of laughs. I gained a whole new insight into Kitty's powers of emotional blackmail!

hilarious

Great narration, reminded me a bit of comedian Tom Allen. Every line Freddy has cracks me up with his excessive slang. one of the funniest Heyer ones I've bought. Fairly standard story/plot but worth it for the laughs.

Great fun.

I love this book. The Penguin recording is really great. In particular Raj Ghatak reads Dolph superbly. I was so glad there were no loud music interludes this time.

Great story, but oh what an awful narrator

A lovely, lively GH book full of her usual humour and insights into the period, but really spoiled by the strange narration. He never failed to put a stress on the wrong word, and ran sentences together in the oddest manner, resulting in a stilted and unintelligent reading despite his skill with accents. Really spoiled the joy of the book.

Dodgy reading but...

not the worst I've heard. ignore the weird pronunciation of various words, lack of vocal definition between the cousins at the beginning - and that Dolph has been given an Irish accent - and let the usual brilliance of GH shine through. I just wish more readers would recognised the respect these titles deserve and that Audible would get Matt Addis to do all the re-records
