About this listen

One misstep is all it takes to forever change the lives of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

During the ball at Netherfield Park, Elizabeth, and Mr. Darcy are irretrievably compromised and forced to marry. Angered beyond reason, Mr. Darcy prepares the vilest marriage settlement known to man, forcing Mr. Bennet to accept his terms or suffer the consequences of ruined reputations and unwed daughters. The repercussions that follow show a determined young lady with keen intelligence and a prideful man who realizes that the consequences of their compromise are the best things that have ever happened in his life.

A well written and well paced vagary with a very different storyline to most. As a Brit the use of the word cookies instead of biscuits became quite jarring but that aside the characters were great and interesting. Mr Collins had a conscience and Jane a backbone.

Biscuits not Cookies❣️

I especially enjoyed listening to a tale where Elizabeth had money and status.
It was fun watching Darcy fall in love when he’d behaved so despicably.
I also enjoyed seeing the Bingley’s get their comeuppance.
Highly recommend.

Darcy & Elizabeth as you didn’t know them.

I hated everything about this audiobook

I really wanted to enjoy this. The story itself has some promise — the plot is interesting enough, and initially the writing suggests characters who should feel distinct and engaging. Unfortunately, the narration makes it impossible to listen to.

Dialogue requires a level of acting skill and character differentiation that simply isn’t present here. The performance of the dialogue is awkwardly exaggerated. Some characters sound nearly identical, making conversations confusing, while others are delivered with forced accents and nasal tones that are more distracting than expressive. The female characters were particularly excruciating.

It’s a shame, because with a stronger performance this audiobook might have been enjoyable. As it stands, the narration detracts so much from the storytelling that it becomes impossible to recommend it.

If you’re interested in the story, you might be better off reading the book instead. As for the audiobook, I’d suggest saving your money and choosing a different title.

Butchered by narrator’s performance - a waste of money and time
