About this listen

Devious criminals, bloodthirsty aliens, a colony in despair, and one hardened veteran!

Vesta Colony has a problem: Aliens are snatching men until they disappear for good. Humanity's defensive forces are stretched too thin to help a distant outpost, and so, the desperate founders, as well as their investors, are given the bad option of recruiting the worst while bribing the rest.

When Alex's wife was murdered, he turned full vigilante. After years of having a sterling record, he found himself willingly incarcerated to exact his vengeance. His incarceration eats at his soul until an offer too good to refuse from Vesta Colony changes his fate. While he's more than happy to get out from behind bars, the fact colonies treat humans like cattle means he understands what he's signing up for.

Except...

There's more to this situation than a hardened veteran anticipates. Life won't be easy, issues won't stop rearing their ugly heads, and the lovely beauties who need his protection make Alex's head spin. Oh, and the rumor is, there's an army of testicle-eating aliens trying to turn in him into a snack.

Join Alex as he crossed the void to become the Guardian of Vesta Colony!

excellent narration and a solid story

the narrators do a fantastic job bringing this book to life. the world is interesting and the setting has a depth hinted at in its structure.

there are only some minor frustrations with the overall plot - notably the MC is supposedly super fast and a mountain of a human. yet is met on equal footing by someone he easily took down at the early stages of the book. he can go toe to toe with a super predator but seems to struggle in fist fights with non combat trained humans. his power and competence fluctuate as the drama demands.

once the story hits the main colony things stabilise and really get going. the MC is clearly a guy who plays by the rules and he does well. some plot points make you wonder why they didn't do things earlier to discredit the villains or to stymie their support. again it does build an understanding of why this is, but as the plot accelerates there are some continuity skips - one point mentions a character being in jail and then being busted out where a sentence before he is walking free, as if a whole segment is missing. this doesn't derail overmuch and is a minor blip.

minor inconsistencies aside this was a great sci fi story with a fun ensemble cast and excellent narration. the romance scenes were erotic and the later fights suitably perilous and with a sense of threat to our heroes. I look forward to the next book.

Magnificent Space Opera

This is a phenomenal start to a series. The story builds up as they Travel to Vesta and it just continues to roll onwards blending intrigue, action, combat and beautiful women. The story flows amazingly between the MC Alex's point of view and occasionally someone else's. And while there are more than enough saucy activities throughout the book it's the depth of the story that draws you in.

a good listen...

The story moves well, if a tiny bit predictable in places.
it's an enjoyable piece of sci-fi. A little more back story would have been interesting and possibly removed some of the predictable parts of the narrative.
Very enjoyable overall.!

The actors do a commendable job of delivery with a consistent performance. often with longer audio books, some characters drift, this is not evident. Thank you.

Decently performed but too many plot holes.

Unfortunately I feel a compulsion to finish something, especially something I have paid for. This meant that despite some decntly written and performed erotic scenes I had to suffer through a terrible plot. The world and ideas have great potential but the story is just so 1 dimensional, a some point it became almost comical how inept all of the characters are. Do not recommend.
