About this listen
1. MY LAST BUFFALO - Growing up in Chinook, Montana, Heath "Bo" Bottomly befriends a Nez Perce boy, Little Bear. Together, Heath, Little Bear, and Little Bear's grandfather, Black Feather, travel to the site of the Battle of the Bear Paw, the Nez Perce's Last Stand, against the U.S. Cavalry, in October, 1877.
2/3. KID CURRY'S LAST RIDE PART I & II - In 1928, four armed men rob the Chinook, Montana, bank, and take Heath and his older brother hostage. The robbers, pursued by a posse, split up in the foothills. Heath is able to sneak away with one of the bandit's horses, but now he must save his brother.
4. THE EAGLE CATCHER - Heath remembers when he, Little Bear, and Black Feather, attempted the ancient art of laying in wait to claim eagle feathers from a live raptor. He says it was "the most unbelievable half hour of sheer guts" that he had ever witnessed.
5. A GRIZZLY ENCOUNTER - In 1901, in a saloon in Plentywood, MT, Vice President Theodore Roosevelt and rail magnate James J. Hill take up a game of poker with Heath's grandpa, Ben Bottomly. Grandpa Ben walks away with the deed to land at Lake McDonald, Glacier Park, Montana, where years later, the boy, Heath, encounters a sow grizzly and her cubs while huckleberry picking on this Montana land.
6. GRANDPA BUFFALO - Young Heath's grandfather Ben, untamed, rough and ready high plains drifter, was a former scout and buffalo hunter for General Miles. Grandpa takes Heath and his brothers on a fall ride in the mountains to explain the ways of the wilderness, and the ways of life.
