About this listen
A LONG-LOST LIBRARY. A PRICELESS MANUSCRIPT. A DEADLY SECRET ...
About to depart on his first vacation in years, Edward Wozny, a hot-shot young banker, is sent to help one of his firms most important and mysterious clients. When asked to un-crate and organise a personal library of rare books, Edward's indignation turns to intrigue as he realises that among the volumes there may be hidden a unique medieval codex, a treasure kept sealed away for many years and for many reasons.
Edward's intrigue becomes an obsession that only deepens as friends draw him into a peculiar and addictive computer game, as mystifying parallels between the game's virtual reality and the legend of the codex emerge ...

The Sublime & The Ridiculous Entwined
This book kept me enthralled, and I got my earphones out at every opportunity. The story is of a high-flying American financier who decides to take a holiday. During his period of leave, he becomes entangled in the search for a medieval document, the eponymous "Codex" of the title. The story is exciting and moves at a pace; it is built around the alleged conflict between an English duke & duchess.
The story works its way up to an exciting conclusion. The conclusion, however, never comes. In a nutshell, the story just stops. It's extremely annoying and leaves the listener feeling totally short-changed.

Meanders to a less than satisfactory conclusion
An interesting plot that should have been engrossing but the storyline never really gets to grip you. Two seemingly unconnected sub plots remain that way throughout. The ending is somewhat predictable but fails to deliver, leaving everything up in the air.
Jeff Harding has this annoying American habit of finishing every phrase on a rising stressed syllable but once you get used to it the delivery of the narrative is well performed with only minor pronunciation errors.

terrible story telling
if you like Lev Grossman's other books than I wouldnt recommend. the story dribbles on for ages and ages for the sake of the author and not the actual story. terrible conclusion and totally unbelievable

Wtf
The book was good up until the ending chapter. It finishes well unfinished I would say, so many loose ends and questions makes me wonder why Lev Grossman even bothered writing this. After the magicians book series I expected amazing work but it’s an epic fail that I would never have expected from a writer of his caliber and a former critic of the times.
