About this listen
For years the Department of Military Sciences has fought to stop terrorists from using radical bioweapons - designer plagues, weaponized pathogens, genetically modified viruses, and even the zombie plague that first brought Ledger into the DMS. These terrible weapons have been locked away in the world’s most secure facility. Until now. Joe Ledger and Echo Team are scrambled when a highly elite team of killers breaks the unbreakable security and steals the world’s most dangerous weapons. Within days there are outbreaks of mass slaughter and murderous insanity across the American heartland. Can Joe Ledger stop a brilliant and devious master criminal from turning the Land of the Free into a land of the dead?
Code Zero, a Joe Ledger novel from Jonathan Maberry, is the exciting direct sequel to Patient Zero.

ridiculous
it's pure action trash and I love it. performance by the narrator is actually really good, he's very animated and brings the story to life.

Good but not great
Found all the "Interludes" a bit annoying after a while and not enough "action".
However as always, the narration by Ray Porter was excellent keeps you spellbound all the way.
Overall a good book but not as good as previous Joe Ledger adventures.

Simply the finest horror writer in existence...
Would you listen to Code Zero again? Why?
The combination of Jonathan Maberry's writing combined with Ray Porter's masterful narration mean I have listened to all of the Joe Ledger series at least twice already. I read all the books before I graduated onto the audio versions and having loved them in written form was actually blown away at how much these audio versions came to life.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Without a doubt, Joe Ledger. He is probably the world's finest reluctant hero, and Porter makes him come to life in a way that makes you laugh out loud and your heart bleed - sometimes even in the same chapter.
Rudy Sanchez and Church come a close second, the first for his heart and humour, the second for subtlety and pure enigmatic charm.
What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Probably the best character portrayals of any narrator. He can make a character come to life better than you possibly imagined was possible. Having read all the books first I can testify that Ray gives them a whole new dimension.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Once I start listening to these audio versions of the Joe Ledger series they usually take up my spare moments anytime I can concentrate on them - while cooking, doing chores, commuting to work, while working out - once you are in, you're hooked.
Any additional comments?
Audible really needs to at least get the full library of Joe Ledger books available for download - Patient Zero, The Dragon Factory, The King of Plagues. You can listen to the ones on audible as standalones but the series is at its best when you can listen to them all in sequence. I actually started listening to the Joe Ledger series thanks to the collection of short stories called "special ops" having already read all the main books, this started a mad desire in me to listen to all the audiobooks. Alas, I had to track down the first 3 books in very expensive Audio CD format due to them not being available here.
I would love to listen to Maberry's Pine Deep trilogy as well but these are even rarer to get hold of and upon my recent reading of them can testify that it is the best horror story I have ever read - so it should definetly be found on Audible - come on, guys, get with the program!

If you think you wouldn't - you may be surprised!
Ray Porter makes listening to this book extremely enjoyable. The voice changes for his characters really brings a great visual reality to them. The story itself I found really enjoyable. It was throwing everything in that you do NOT want to happen but left me wondering..
I'm not really a 'Zombie' type of person. George A Romero, for me, personally, was the beginnings of Zombie stuff, but I have always enjoyed the 'spin' that some film directors have taken them to. This book does that and then some.
Jonathan Maberry's quote from Bertrand Russell was mind blowing for me and held this whole thing together. 'Opinions that are held with passion are always those for which no good ground exists'. Hmm! (I actually bought the book Sceptial Essays and am finding it very interesting too if not a hard read as it's very dated!
I do like a book that is both fantastical but makes me curious about the topic it is writing about. I find that something about a 'Maberry' book does that for me.
As a 'head in the clouds' type of person and I don't usually like a book regarding wars in general as personally I feel there is more than enough in the real world, but I really enjoyed the way this was written, the characters and how it made me feel, both the good feels and that bad feels.
As a character, Joe Ledger beats some of the others on offer, not to say they are good in their own ways, but Joe's head is a real conflict for sure.
I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did,
