Very interesting story.

I really liked the story, it was intriguing. I love stories that are set in old buildings/houses. I loved the detail and the way it was written. Fab story.

Spooky & dark

I went on a tour in this book to a warm and humid place, lovely when I’m in the cold!
Claire has bought her dream home, she won the lottery, now the hard work begins. She meets Paco and a new friendship appears The builders are spooked, she is spooked and Aunt Clarissa did warn her......
The story gets spooky and dark as the house is coming along. Strange noises and happenings occur and disturb the balance of new and old lives.
Definitely recommend this, written so well and flows so good.
Really good listen. The story really comes to life & the history of the island just caught my imagination even more via my headphones!
Narrator was good, clear & well spoken. A nice lily to her voice.
Recommend both ways to enjoy this book

Slow To Start But Continue Listening

I have to admit that for the first hour I struggled to stay concentrated on the story as I found the Narrators very pleasent voice and the story, very slow.

I am not one to give up on a book so continued listening as I understand how many others like to give you background and establish the places and often backstory before they move forward. Others jump right in and you catch up as you go along trying to keep what is past and present separate.

So I hoped author was one of the first and Narrator was just going along calmly while you heard all the points that lead up to actual story.

I was rewarded for my patience as not to long afterwards the, shall I say 'main' story started to unfold.

The book throughout I felt was gentle even though our heroine has a few near death experiences but although the Narrator keeps fairly slow and steady through she does use her voice to create the correct atmosphere. Her voice is so clear that even if British English is not your main language, you will have no problem following her. Something that sadly happens all to often with many narrators which takes away so much enjoyment.

The bringing together of Isobel Blackthorns Claire with Narrator Virginia Ferguson was inspired as she is how I would expect Claire to sound .

I do hope this will be the first in a series as I do want to know more about what Claire's aunt has noticed.

I was given this free in the hope I would write a review good or bad and I will happily buy any more books about Claire in her island home.

Only listen in Fuerteventura!

We listened to this on holiday in Fuerteventura. Positives... good Island description and snatches of local culture and history. Negatives.... cliché after cliché to the point we were guessing the next one and laughing out loud. The narrator was a poor choice. She sounded older than the main character was supposed to be and integral to the story there were people from Birmingham, Yorkshire and Scotland. Her accents were terrible. We speeded up the playback speed which helped but all in all I really wouldn't bother!
