Don’t let the court attire fool you, this is American
Now feel free to call me a cynic, I have spent the last 21 years of my life in criminal law so you would probably be right.
I am an English lawyer, I practice criminal litigation. I thought to myself maybe I should broaden my horizons and use my monthly credit on something worth while, so I searched for some books on civil litigation.
I came across this one, with a picture of an English barrister on the front. Now I know the old adage, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’, but on looking at the content, there was nothing leaping out to me to say this wasn’t English civil litigation.
After listening to a grand total of 6 minutes I realised that it was an utter waste for an English lawyer, unless of course you planned on converting and emigrating to the USA; in which case it may be 5 stars.
The reason for my review is that it is misleading, the English barrister on the cover and the lack of description of which jurisdiction the law covers leads one to the view that it is English law. Well it isn’t and as such for me it was a complete waste of time.
This could have all been avoided by stating in the opening line of the description that this was American civil litigation.
