Summary

Kevin Kwan, best-selling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia's most eligible bachelor, discovers her birth father.

On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birth father, a man she never knew, won't be able to walk her down the aisle.

Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined. Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father.

Meanwhile, Singapore's It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband. A romp through Asia's most exclusive clubs, auction houses and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters and offering an inside glimpse at what it's like to be gloriously, crazily China-rich.

Great book, poor narration

I really enjoyed the narration of the first book but the narration of this one is very distracting. The pace is weird and there are long mid-sentence pauses making it quite frustrating to listen to. I ended up getting the actual book instead.

A fun, easy read with a unique angle!

This book really draws you in, all the plot lines are easy to follow so it’s the perfect story to read between heavier books.
I really liked the narrator and all the author notes were really interesting, I learned a lot!
So yeah I definitely recommend.

Hilarious

This also made me laugh out loud at times. It also made me hungry. I need to find some decent Chinese food now.

Good follow up

I enjoyed this sequel, although not as good as the original book. I also preferred the first narrator. I’m looking forward to the next in the sequence.

This book was just amazing—I can’t really describe how enjoyable it was! I laughed out loud, gasped in horror, teared up, smiled, etc. So funny, sooo good!

More Style, Less Substance

Is there anything you would change about this book?

More plot!

What could Kevin Kwan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I'm not going to pretend Crazy Rich Asians was something deep and meaningful, but while it was a fun beach read it had some sense of structure and story. China Rich Girlfriend seems to tie off the handful of loose ends from the last book and pad it out with too much label dropping and luxury scene setting.

Could you see China Rich Girlfriend being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Definitely see it being made into a movie. Hopefully it won't be white washed, whoever plays the characters.
