Summary

Andrew Sachs reads these four classic stories of suspense - "The Signalman" by Charles Dickens, "The Haunted Doll's House" by M. R. James, "The Room in the Tower" by E. F. Benson, and "The Bus-Conductor" by E. F. Benson. These spine-tingling tales, from the golden age of the ghost story, are sure to leave you with a creeping sense of dread.

"The Signalman" relates the tale of a terrified railway worker, troubled by a dark foreboding. In "The Haunted Doll's House", when Mr Dillet buys a miniature Gothic manor from an antiques dealer, he has no idea of the horrific drama that will be played out within its walls. "The Room in the Tower" tells of a young man haunted by a recurring nightmare about the sinister Stone family and their tower room. But is it merely a dream, or a premonition? And in "The Bus-Conductor", Hugh Grainger explains to a ghost-seeking friend his theory regarding the supernatural - and recounts his own unsettling experience....

One absolute classic

The Signalman is a classic, very ably read by Andrew Sachs. Atmosphere abounds and I enjoyed it immensely. the other stories in the collection, for me, left a lot to be desired. long-winded and ending up nowhere. worth it for the narration but the stories ought to have been presented in the reverse order

Good Ghost Stories.

Very enjoyable Ghost Stories narrated by Andrew Sachs but I wish Audible would do the chapters correctly and name each chapter instead of chapter 1 give it a name is that so hard to do.

Not that scary

Not that scary or chilling even with the atmospheric music and sounds. The narrator was incredible though, a great voice for scary stories
