About this listen
As the Soviet Union dissolves, a long-buried secret puts Charlie’s life in danger - again.
Charlie Muffin shouldn’t be condemned for mourning the end of the Cold War. For decades the KGB provided him with endless professional success and now that it’s gone, Charlie is nearly out of a job. Removed from active duty, he is now training new recruits on operations in a post-Soviet era. It’s dull work that leaves Charlie yearning for the adventures of old and this time, he’ll get more than he bargained for.
One of Charlie’s first pupils is arrested within days of arriving in Beijing to extract a blown British agent. Now Charlie must go to China and get both of them out. Meanwhile, someone is searching for Charlie - Natalia Fedova, a former lover, who surfaces with a new job high up in Russian intelligence and a daughter she says is his.

Another good one
Charlie is always fun, and so clever. Would have like to know something of Andrew though.

No deviation No provarication
Chinese whispers get a new agent into the soup, whilst a soldier of Christ vacillates on how to take his bible into hell. Don't worry, Charlie is on hand to sort it all out, Irena, using kid gloves, has to extricate herself out of plots poised by her own son. Will she ever be able to trust a man again? This is another full on gallop through espionage and international incidents averted and created. Complex and clever, in the usual style for this author.
Perfectly narrated to give pace and punch to a very enjoyable race to safety for our MCs (well some of them). VERY ENJOYABLE

A little slow to start but ended well worth persevering to the end.
The narrator was very hard to listen to. I wonder did
Brian Freemantle ok these accents?

PRONOUNCED “EYELAY MALT”!
When a product is such a feature in a series of novels, it’s such a shame that the narrator isn’t able to pronounce its name correctly.

Great series but a bit off on the pronunciation
I like a good series and this one delivers. Surprised the narrator hasn’t sorted out the pronunciation for Charlie’s favourite dram of Islay!

It was painful!
I really don't understand the 5* reviews. There is no plot, separate people in different parts of the world that have little or no connection. It has been painful to finish (always have to finish even if it's no good). The narrator sounds like someone from the 40s. Don't waste your time with this one!
