About this listen

A cottage on the coast on a windy evening. Under a pool of yellow light, two figures face each other across a kitchen table. A man and a cat. The story about to be related is so unusual yet so terrifyingly plausible that it demands to be told in a single sitting. The man clears his throat, and leans forward, expectant. 'Shall we begin?' says the cat….

Suspend your disbelief

Darkly entertaining comedy thriller about satanic cats. Weird premise but unexpected chuckles, superb narration and great off-hand cultural references (Wallander. Say no more).

Interesting Story and Something a Little Different

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and listened to it in a day. It trotted along nicely with clues and hints and I like the use of a few authors to the story. The narration was superb.

Brilliant! Imagine if Edgar Allan Poe wrote comedy...

I loved this book. It was so refreshing to listen to something unlike anything else I've read. I really wasn't sure if I'd like it but decided to give it a go. I'm so very glad I did. It was read perfectly. Just the right narrator for this book. The quality of the narration was excellent. It was read effortlessly with stunning characterisation and great humour. When I discovered today that the sequel is on audible I bought it immediately. Thank you so much to the author, narrator and all involved in production, for a highly entertaining few hours.

Entertaining and worth a listen.

For the first half of this book I was hooked, but the end was a little weak and far fetched for me. Still the performance is great and engaging. Definitely worth a listen and I can see how some people would completely love it.

Quirky, dark and fun

Thoroughly enjoyed this dark tale. Good balance of gruesome, sad and funny. It has an inventive story line and great characters which are narrated well. At just over 5 hours it's a fairly short but I think that makes the story crisper and kept me gripped.

It’s the tabbies you need to watch.......

As an avid cat lover I was mesmerised by this dark and humourous tale of demonic cats and sinister librarians. Lynne Truss perfectly captures the absolute hold these pesky creatures have over us hapless souls and the fact that no matter what devilment they get up to, they always manage to enchant us with their un-worldly beauty and absolute self-assurance. Of course another great feature of cats is that they are very funny, and so too is this book. I particularly adored the main character who when confronted with a terrifying denouement wishes for nothing more than a sausage sandwich. It is rare that I would rate the narrator as being of equal importance as the author of the tale but in this case Mike Grady is the absolute embodiment of all the fantastic characters in this book. This is 100% recommended for all cat and non-cat lovers who enjoy a bit of eccentric British humour spiced up with some genuine chills.

nice short story, funny and interesting

Fun story to pass my time. However I'm not entirely sure if the story was tied up together that well

Enjoyable narration - ok book

I think I'm not quite the right demographic for this book. I bought it in the sale and listened to it immediately. But it didn't really grip me as much as the audio snippet and reviews lead me to think it would.

it's preposterous of course, but that's part of it's charm. I enjoyed it but wasn't really gripped. And even though short I listened at double speed and found myself wanting everything to get a move on.

But it's not dreadful, just not my sort of thing. If cats solving mysteries and light characterisation is your thing, then this is well written and beautifully performed.

Not all cats come from hell.

Narration was very good. However I found the story dropped off in the middle and I skipped 1 1/2 of the chapters. I don't think I'd recommend this title, but there are people out there in audible land who would enjoy this story.
