Summary
Young Josiah Paddock, on the run from his past in St. Louis, didn’t have much hope of survival. Winter was coming to the Rockies, and if the cold cutting through his city clothes didn’t kill him, grizzlies or Indians would. Then his luck turned. He stumbled across the trail of Ol’ Scratch, a solitary mountain man eager enough for company to take the brash youngster under his wing.
Pure chance brought Paddock to the old trapper’s camp, but it was skill with a gun and a knife that kept them both alive as they rode deep into the majestic land of Blackfeet and Crow, bible-spouting pioneers, and sensual women where only the best and bravest survived...and only the luckiest rode back again.
Carry the Wind is a gripping historical saga set in the Grand Tetons during a time when the horizon never ended and a nation was being born.

Very dated Story
If you cannot abide the 'N' word, please avoid this book. It's not used in the same way as modern times, but instead how travelers seem to refer to each other, but it's used often.
The story is of a young man thrown into the company of a hardy Beaver trapper, their journey together and the good and bad natives they meet. It's quite relaxing to listen to, and goes into a lot of detail about the environment and how they lived in those good 'ol times. It's quite a long slow story, so if your into a fast paced, to the point story this may prove frustrating for you, but I found the narrator captured the characters well, and it's was easy to drift along with the story. Not great, but if you just like variety and a different novel to help escape to, then you may enjoy this too.

Good listen but,,,,,
Beware!!!!
Words will offend as not PC in these times,, but in reflection the words used are very racist, but they are not used in the same context as used today,, well suppose you’ll have to work it out for yourself and make your own mind up !

Worth the length!
A mammoth tale well told by the author. Wonderful descriptions of life and characters of the time. For me it was a huge benefit to have it read to me as it brought the story to life in a way that my own reading of it couldn’t have done. I only gave the performance 4 stars because the accent of one of the characters was hard to believe. I almost gave up on the story because of it but I persevered and am so glad I did. It’s a tale that will stay with me and I’m now hoping Audible has the other books in this series.

A tale of trapper frontiersmen
The story is set in the hills and mountains of America in the early 1800s and is a tale of man against nature and man against man. I particularly enjoyed the detailed description of how the trappers survived in the wilderness and the authentic earthy language that such men spoke. It gets quite gory in places but the plot is difficult to predict and I enjoyed the book.

Bob d review
The story started very slow and the terrible accents nearly stopped me listening and they never got any better, but I enjoyed the story line.

Such an amazing insight into real lives, wonderfully written.
This trilogy of books, is one of the best I have read for a very long time. The author draws you in to a world of free people living in a wild environment, where the dangers and the absolute depth of true living are in each new moment. So so exciting making it all so real. Incites into the life and beliefs of The many Native American tribes. The wild DIY approach to ‘the law of the land’ or lack of it, True love for all the right reasons that transcends where we seem to be in ‘the 21st century’ I cannot recommend high enough this very special literature.
