About this listen
Enter the nostalgia-laced world of CAMP 1985, a bogus new summer program where parents send their social-media-addicted teens to unplug and make face-to-face connections without the help of a screen. Ander expects a fun weekend getaway with other influencers but instead finds himself trapped in a radical landscape without wifi. Just when Ander gives in to camp life and starts crushing on a cute gamer boy, a little fun with a spirit board unleashes a vengeful spirit of a bygone era. Now, with danger lurking behind every tree, Ander and his fellow campers must navigate a twisted game of survival against a retro evil determined to off them one by one. Who will survive? Brace yourself for a bloody good time in the first of seven books in Matthew R. Corr’s Slasherverse!

a modern slasher with 80s vibes
A different take on slashers with several references to the 80s and supernatural elements. A probable start of a series as the ending suggested more to come.
I loved the premise of this slasher and was really excited as its title is the year I was born! Whilst I didn't dislike any of it, I couldn't really vibe with the characters, sadly not one of them, and I felt like an outsider peeking in more than a participant in the story. I also think some of the scenes were overly descriptive and the action kind of lost its urgency and adrenaline after a while. As always these are my personal thoughts.
I listened to the audiobook and I really liked the narrator Nicholas Gilomen that made it more enjoyable for me.
If you love slashers with a supernatural angle, then give this a go, set in modern times but with 80s vibes.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.
