About this listen

Rome, AD 37. The emperor is dying. No-one knows how long he has left. The power struggle has begun.

When the ailing Tiberius thrusts Caligula's family into the imperial succession in a bid to restore order, he will change the fate of the empire and create one of history's most infamous tyrants, Caligula.

But was Caligula really a monster?

Forget everything you think you know. Let Livilla, Caligula's youngest sister and confidante, tell you what really happened. How her quiet, caring brother became the most powerful man on earth.

And how, with lies, murder and betrayal, Rome was changed forever....

Couldn't stop listening

I adored this book, the narrator is perfect for this and really engages with the story. I stumbled across this book by chance, I'm so glad I did, well worth a listen and I can't wait for the next book. I hope there is one on Nero in the works.

An enjoyable read of a brilliantly written book

This story was excellently told, with poise and style. The description flows and the era is brought beautifully to life.

The narrator does a fine job of bringing the people and places to life in a great read.

Glorious

I loved this book so very much. I’m a lifelong reader of historical non fiction and fiction, and this book is now amongst the best I’ve read. It is most definitely not for the faint hearted for there is a considerable amount of violence in this book. If you are already familiar with Roman history this will not surprise you. The narrators voice was perfect, the reading and writing of the book so atmospheric that I felt a part of the story. I loved the portrayal of Gaius Caligula and indeed all the characters in this book leapt to life. It was perfect.

interesting well narrated version of Caligula. Leaves you wondering what is the
truth regarding a well criticised Emperor?
