Summary
From the moment she fell out of the tree in his backyard, ruining his eighth birthday party, Genesis Stoll had been Kye Levine’s best friend. The one person he knew would be there no matter what. She was his escape, his sunshine when the darkness in his world got too deep. When he had her to run to, he knew no matter how twisted his life got, she would remind him who he was. He would never lose himself. She wouldn’t let him.
Genesis had loved Kye most of their life; in a way, she knew Kye didn’t reciprocate. If she ever told him, it would likely destroy their friendship, and she wasn’t willing to take that chance. Besides, Kye would never fall in love and be in a relationship. He was a wild, free spirit.
When an old boyfriend with a past intertwined with both Genesis and Kye walks back into her life, she feels things for him—believing that he could be the man to give her a family, love, and security. All the things she knew Kye never would.
Just as things begin to fall into place for Genesis and the new man in her life, Kye walks in her door with a baby. One he didn’t know existed. One that’s mother had dropped him off like unwanted baggage. A baby boy that belonged to Kye.

Excellent Story & Listen🎧Riveting & Emotional!
It is great to be back in Abbi Glines’ “Smoke” series world again for another amazing novel, a friends-to-lovers romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This eighth books is Kye Levine and Genesis Stoll’s story and their friendship started when they were kids and it only grew stronger over the years. Both denied that their feeling morphed into something more, because Kye was not a one woman man and she did not think she saw her that way, plus she was not into sharing. Except he did harbor feelings for her, but never acted on his feeling because he was not the relationship type and she was. Besides, he missed his chance when she fell in love with another of their friends, Bowie, but they remained each other’s person and their friendship was always a part of any relationship she was in. When Kye receives a surprise, a bundle of joy, well, not exactly joyful at first, but it was Genesis who helped him out, despite it costing her. Kye has decisions to make, and turns into an eye opening experience, and a pivotal point in his life. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, also loved the unique telling of the story, a chronological thru the years type telling and it was great to watch them grow into their own, with Kye taking longer, but he gets there in the end. This wonderfully written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, charming and heartfelt moments, thrilling & suspenseful moments and steamy romance. It was great to see characters from the earlier books too. Abbi Glines, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Abbi Glines continues to cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life. Jacob Morgan and Juno Cooper are superbly talented voice artists and they did a fantastic job portraying the characters, giving each a voice that was fitting and was believable in every role. Cooper was spot on as Genesis, grasping every aspect of her personality, including her fierceness, from her youthful years to adulthood. Morgan nailed it as Kye, showcasing his personality perfectly, from his bad boy side to his caring side. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another fantastic listen.
