About this listen

Journalists are supposed to report the news, not be it. For Avery Shaw, though, that's easier said than done.

Avery has spent the last month on her boss' list - you know the one - and she can't figure out a way to get off it. When a missing person's case involving a wealthy mother in the northern suburbs surfaces, Avery figures the best way to get back in his good graces is break the story of the year.

There are just a few problems standing in her way. First off, she's being stalked online - and it's starting to make her life difficult. She's also decided to actually start dating the hot pawnshop owner, Eliot, who saved her life a few weeks back. That sounds good in theory, but she's constantly crossing paths with her ex-boyfriend and that tends to make things uncomfortable (to say the least).

When you compound that with the fact that this missing persons case is more than it appears - and the office tool has been assigned to the story with her - Avery manages to get in over her head. Again.

Avery is sure that she can work things out to her advantage - as long as she doesn't die in the pursuit of yet another story in which she manages to get personally involved.

Once again Avery is making the news

I enjoyed this book. I think Avery Shaw is growing on me and I didn't find her quiet as annoying as in book one and two. Now if only the author can get the balance between mystery and family life this could be a good series. This book contained a little bit to much family life for me and while entertaining and often funny it didn't really have anything to do with the mystery, which is why I listen to books. I did enjoy it and listened to the end but the mystery got lost in squabbles. Squabbles is the only word for it, as Avery has a hunky and capable boyfriend but still get jealous and resorts to make calling with the ex's new girlfriend. The story could have also done with a few more suspects but I am still off to start the next book in the series to see what other trouble Avery can get into.
The police call a press conference when a mother disappears and Avery is assigned the job of covering the case for the local newspaper. The case seems strange right from the start and Avery is soon getting the police's way as she tries to find out what happened to the lady. And if she is even alive.
I like the narrator, although at times she makes the main character sound whiny when I don't think she is meant to be. On the whole it is a good performance.
