Summary

Early one morning, the world ended. The devastating Alpha Event rewrote the very laws of reality itself, transforming peaceful cities and communities into sprawling hellscapes filled with flesh-eating zombies—and worse!

For Daniel, a zombie apocalypse couldn’t have happened at a worse time. If he’d been back at the farm, he might have stood a better chance than most. Instead, Daniel woke up in a distant hotel room armed with nothing but a hangover.

To add insult to injury, as he and other survivors shelter for safety in their hotel, Daniel discovers another misfortune. To help guide them through the horrors of this new reality, each survivor is supposed to have been grafted with an interface—a guide to help them level up, develop their skills, and better understand the world around them.

Daniel’s is broken.

Nevertheless, this new reality has gifted Daniel with other strange, new powers—powers that could enable him to unite what other survivors they can find into a force capable of surviving in this cruel, new world.

Kernal is the first book in the Broken Interface series, set in Alex Kozlowski’s Alpha Physics Universe—described by listeners as “a breath of fresh air” in the LitRPG genre, with stories that are “human, thought out, and realistic”.

Style: single third-person POV, LITRPG, with gore and adult themes but no explicit sexual content.

Warning: There will be a cute pet.

Great book

I wasn't going to leave a review because I don't usually enjoy writing them out but after seeing the one from the a-hole claiming that all the five star reviews are fake, I felt I had to. I bought this book and enjoyed it a lot and look forward to the next book. As for the reviews from people who received the book for free, that person doesn't understand what they are talking about. When you receive a free copy, there is no task master standing behind you to make sure you leave a positive review. In fact, I mostly decided to stop receiving free book copies because I kept forgetting to leave reviews or the books just weren't very good and I skipped reviewing those. So, feel free to ignore that guy and, if you enjoy post apocalyptic litrpg, go ahead and get the book.

Interesting concept slightly repetitive

I received this title for free and was asked to review.
Firstly Pavi Proczko’s narration is solid, I’ve listened to many books narrated by him and this one was definitely to par. The only negative thing I can say about it was the lack of an Australian accent for the MC, as the Aussie slang sounds a little strange with the North American Accent but overall Excellent.
The book starts off a bit slow but gets to pace as you get further along, it can be slightly repetitive but generally has new things being introduced consistently.
I really enjoyed the magic system, it’s familiar to other LitRPGs I’ve read but with some unique quirks to make it different. I really Appreciate the MC’s interface being broken as it stops the flow of the story being interrupted. I like seeing stats of MCs but some books spam them too often for audio. This book does not suffer from this.
Overall I enjoyed it and was interested to see what the next chapter held.

A slow start but traction builds

I struggled at the start of this book but then started to really enjoy it. there is more progression. than litrpg (hence a broken system) and the MC is OP as hell.

the story itself is original enough to keep you interested and I do think I will invest in book 2 when it comes out.

Interesting and innovating

I received this free copy for an honest review. This was one awesome story, like this thrope has been played anlot but this adds and interesting twist and the story is good, quick paced enough and able to jab you on pretty quick. We have our hero for the world in an apocalypse that has system but this hero is negated of a full system, and he is better of for it! He has to truly learn and has some other advantages which turn him in the hero of this area. The narration is good, clear and easy to understand, I definitely recommend it!

Amazing

A zombie apocalypse, a level up system, and a flaw in the rules that creates a loophole for the MC, this book has it all. Can't wait to see where the series goes next.

A slow burn

The story goes nowhere; but it’s a good story as long as you don’t want the story to go anywhere in a single book. Hopefully the series will bring the story forward at some point.

Tried but couldn't get through this

I don't write reviews often but didn't want others to fall into the trap of believing the high reviews from people who received free books.

Nothing of note happens in the first hour and you learn very little other than that the guy doesn't know what's happening, and is in a dark hotel room. The second hour you learn a bit more, very slowly.

About 5 hours in, the story moves forward a little from the few rooms they had stayed in, but I was too bored by that point to carry on.

I read this, so you don't have to

Edit: Quick note, look carefully at the five star reviews. Notice they've received the books for free. Click on their names, you'll find they are essentially professional five star review spammers. It's downright fraudulent frankly.

Did you know that reading one hour of a book isn't enough to leave a review on Audible? Well, I suffered through the minimum required reading time so that you won't have to.

This is terrible. The beginning, is especially terrible. Did the author not have an editor? It's as if the author has a completely fleshed out story in his mind (a bad one), and then is in a rush to tell you. Skipping important parts, hammering you in the face with other parts.

This is a book where you are never shown anything by the way, you will be told. Bluntly and directly, awkwardly even dare I say.

The book begins with some weird ramble about lucid dreaming, while the changes to the world take a back-seat.

Overall, one of the worst litrpg's I've been subjected to so far, which is saying something given how bad some of them are.

Just utterly terrible with no redeeming qualities what so ever.
