About this listen
From number one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson comes her most personal book yet.
As Jenny Lawson’s hundreds of thousands of fans know, she suffers from depression. In Broken, she explores her experimental treatment of transcranial magnetic stimulation with brutal honesty. But also with brutal humour. Jenny discusses the frustration of dealing with her insurance company in ‘An Open Letter to My Insurance Company’, which should be an anthem for anyone who has ever had to call their insurance company to try and get a claim covered. She tackles such timelessly debated questions as ‘How do dogs know they have penises?’ We see how her vacuum cleaner almost set her house on fire, how she was attacked by three bears, business ideas she wants to pitch to Shark Tank and why she can never go back to the post office. Of course, Jenny’s long-suffering husband Victor, the Ricky to Jenny’s Lucille Ball, is present throughout.
A treat for Jenny Lawson’s already existing fans and destined to convert new ones, Broken is a beacon of hope and a wellspring of laughter.

©2021 Jenny Lawson (P)2021 Macmillan AudioCritic reviews
"The author recounts her incredibly relatable, awkward social interactions and worst fears all the while crediting her steadfast husband, Victor, for being her rock. With vigorous pacing, every frantic thought and wacky scenario is presented in an authentic voice that each listener will not only understand but also recognise as being within their own mental capacity." Very interesting story!
first time listening to a Jenny Lawson book. bought this book in hope I could relate to some stories and feelings of the author, which I did. it make me feel normal again and that it's okay to mess up and feel broken every now and again. would recommend and have already bought another of jenny's book. narration by Jenny was excellent and had no issues at all.

Funny, honest, sad, haunting and so very brave
A laugh out loud book at times, at others you can feel the depths of the difficulties Jenny has faced. She is one of my favourite people I have never met. She’s someone I’d love to not hang out with (because we’re both too introverted). The book is well worth a listen, she’s narrated it too, which I think brings more meaning and life to the already awesome stories.

Iconic
Jenny Lawson can make me laugh and cry all in the span of 30 minutes. This book is a work of art. There are no words that can do it justice. Just listen.

Disability Visibility
Barely anyone talks about what it’s like to live with a disability so it’s refreshing to hear the reality told with humour and compassion. It makes you feel less alone.

Funny and sad at the same time
Jenny Lawson is really mucked up but tells her story with humour especially chapter 12a.

Trying too hard
Not as good as her previous books unfortunately. I felt she was trying to gard this time to be funny or quirky.

Don't bother reading.
I really didn't love it. Didnt find any of it humorous apart from Chapter 12 where she was using other people's quotes of what they had inadvertently said or typed. I really couldn't recommend it.
