About this listen

The chilling screams of the Red Fox, the rutting calls of the Fallow Deer, and the rumbling growls of the Badger are just a few of the sounds featured in this publication. This identification guide from the British Library presents a comprehensive collection of recordings that will help listeners learn how to identify the sounds of British mammals.

It includes the calls of species such as the Red Deer, Red Squirrel, and Grey Seal that are celebrated hallmarks of the British landscape. It also features the sounds of our more secretive mammals such as the Otter, Yellow-necked Mouse and Pine Marten.

Who knew mammals made so much noise?

Where does British Mammals rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not the worst, not the best.

What did you like best about this story?

hearing red squirrels, rabbits and bats.

Have you listened to any of Cookie Weymouth’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes I've heard others and it's the same, just announcing each mammal. Nothing else to do.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

although birds are my interest, it's good to hear a book showcasing the sounds of Mammals that we wouldn't usually hear otherwise.
