About this listen

From the author of Mountain Man: Encounter a new breed of fear in the first book of a bloodcurdling werewolf horror series set in the snows of Newfoundland.

In a nearly deserted village off the coast of Canada, strange things are happening. A local hunter discovers bare footprints in the snow. The stray dog population has ceased to exist. And people are beginning to ask questions about the town’s recluse.

But with winter’s most powerful weapon bearing down on the island, it’s about to get a lot worse . . .

Breeds is the first book in a trilogy of terror sure to please fans of Robert R. McCammon, Maggie Stiefvater, and Chase Novak.

The (Audible) world needs more Keith C Blackmore.

Where does Breeds, Book 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is definitely a top 10 audio book for me.

What did you like best about this story?

The book flowed at a great pace and didn't take an age to get to the crux of the story. The excellent use of profanity is an art form. For KCB to write and the narrator to perform such venomous words in a way that it makes you burst out laughing is brilliant .......

Any additional comments?

I've never been a big follower of the werewolf, vampire genre but after listening to the Mountain Man series I was desperate to see what Keith C Blackmore's other books were like and it didn't disappoint. I cant wait for the other books in the series to be released and hope that some of his other books get recorded for Audible.

Breeds

I’m so enjoying this book. Werewolves aren’t usually my thing but I took a chance on this one from the BOGOF sale plus I love Gus ‘The Mountain Man’ it’s different, fast moving and not full of puppies and kittens - although dogs make an appearance. Well narrated by Sean who also narrates a cracking Zombie series.

Surprisingly Good

What did you like most about Breeds, Book 1?

I only bought this book because I enjoyed the Mountain Man series so much. I am glad I did. Brilliantly written and excellently narrated.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Borland. Even though he isn't really one of the main characters he was believable and 3-dimentional; not at all your typical 2-dimentional "bad guy".

What about Sean Runnette’s performance did you like?

His accents. Runnette did an excellent job of bringing the book and the characters to life.

Any additional comments?

A note to Keith Blackmore (even though I doubt he'll ever read it): Please stay away from overworked, tired cliches. I sighed when I heard the narrator speak the words "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn't exist" - although this has been used in too many books, tv shows and movies to mention it reminds me of the awful Swatzenegger movie End of Days. You're writing is so much better than that and such a cheap line betrays your talent and taints your work!

A note to Audible: I really hope Audible have plans to bring more of Blackmore's books to listeners. I am very disappointed that there are only 2 series of books from this writer. The Mountain Man series of books are my favourite downloads from my many years of membership and Breeds book 1 was almost as good.

Unique concept

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ross, the accidental hero.

Any additional comments?

Under the snowy backdrop of a Newfoundland island, something unnatural is happening. A taste for flesh is being nurtured, all under the watchful eyes of the Warden, Borland. While Ross enters the wolves den, unprepared and innocent, Kirk tries to stay focused despite the force of nature that is his target.
If werewolves are your thing, then this is a must-read. The author sets the scene in a beautiful way, poetic and direct. His use of language is unique and bleakly beautiful, as is the concept of this story. Through a set of well-developed characters, Blackmore unwinds a story that leaves you hooked, shocked, and hopeful.
This is a brilliant addition to the paranormal/supernatural genre, and even more so to the sea of werewolf novels. I am thrilled that it is part of a series.

not normally one for this kinda book

having listened to mountain man and enjoying it beyond words I thought I'd give breed a whirl.. I for one never a fan of the werewolf genre expected a pretty generic story. I was wrong.. it's a very good book.. about to get part 2 now. please please address the rest of Keith's backlog, this man's an absolute Wizard with words and gripping story lines and previous works outside mountain man and breeds deserve to be audiobook'd...
