Summary

Have you ever been blackmailed?
How would you feel if you were?
We all have secrets we don’t want others to know about.
Several members of the book club did.
But how did someone find out about those secrets?
The blackmailer demanded $3,000 from each of them.
Or the secrets they’d carefully kept would become public knowledge.

When several members of Brigid’s book club are threatened with blackmail and ask her to help them, she can’t refuse. Their secrets are too private to be exposed, so she tries to handle the case on her own, without any help from the sheriff.

Her family isn’t so sure she should get involved. The blackmailing case and her marriage are on a collision course, and she doesn’t know what the right thing is to do.

And then Brigid gets a demand from the blackmailer.

This is the 13th book in the Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery Series by a USA Today best-selling author and Amazon All-Star.

Secrets never stay buried

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. It was unusual in the fact that it wasn't a murder investigation but the out come could have turned deadly very easy. It is frightening how real this situation could be, as you never know what somebody is thinking or how they will react, good job for man's best friend. Once again the author has created like able characters and a believable plot. I liked the fact the secrets were all different and not just affairs of the heart, which made it more believable that the victims were considering paying the blackmail money. I think the mystery was more solved by luck than judgement but it was still interesting and I liked how the story unfolded.
Brigid needs time for herself, as a consultant for the sheriff department she is always busy or hard at work editing. So when a friend suggests she comes back to book club, she agrees. Book club isn't the quite place she imagines though, when she over hears two ladies arguing an her name mentioned. It seems one of them needs her help, the lady got a letter claiming it she doesn't pay up her secret will be revealed. Brigid quickly discovers that there was more than one letter delivered. With a number of the book club having received the letter is that the connection? Brigid must convince her friends to reveal there secret to her so she can track down the blackmail. When she receives her own letter things get serious very quickly for Brigid and her family.
The narrator is okay and she does try by giving the characters different voices but I found her a bit monotone.
