About this listen

Under the microscope, the outer bone surface is a moonscape of craters…‘Preliminary diagnosis?’. ‘Deformity of the bone. Maybe. Cortical destruction on a metacarpal. Maybe. Localised infection? Systemic disease process? Postmortem destruction, either purposeful or natural? A combination of the above? I don’t have a diagnosis…’

The skeleton is that of a young girl, no more than 14 years old – and forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan is struggling to keep her emotions in check. Coroner Yves Bradette is being evasive, insisting the bones are ancient and of no interest.

But it doesn’t quite add up, and a frustrated Tempe is convinced that Bradette is hiding something… It’s not Tempe’s case; she’s overwhelmed with more urgent work in the lab… But the nagging in her subconscious won’t let up. A memory triggered, deep in her hindbrain – the disappearance of a childhood friend; no warning, no explanation… Working on instinct, Tempe takes matters into her own hands. But she couldn’t have predicted where this case would lead, or the horrors it would eventually uncover…Can Tempe maintain a professional distance as the past catches up with her in this, her most deeply personal case yet?

omg ...totally left of field story.brllant

I do like Kathy Reich's, her styling for a story is always left you wondering.the books are so souch better than the show, this story opens old wounds and a brilliant ending...now onto the next one lol

5 Star

Very good,
Kept me guessing the whole time. Very well written and couldn’t fault the narrator at all.

Not the best of Tempy

This is a solid if a little muddled detective thriller with perhaps too many strands running at once. It would benefit from a bit more focus and less side stories that go nowhere. Still a decent novel, but not the best if the Brennan novels.

Awful

This is such an irritating book, Temperance Brennan spends far too long mulling over her love life, this adds nothing to the story, she is also so irritating, being total self obsessed in the 'I'll do whatever I want' way. The whole novel could have been told in a third of the time.

Long drawn out descriptions of dreams...... Obviously giving her the direction to take her enquiries!

Long medical analyses and descriptions not relevant and just superfluous to the story.

To top it all, unless I missed the point I never understood WHY the girl went missing and lived as she did! Maybe I just drifted off from boredom.

Such rubbish!
