Summary

Sequel to the best-selling classic of gay literature: Adam.

At 22, Adam Wheeler learns that he has come into property, a mill house and vineyard in southern France. Leaving old friends behind, Adam moves across the Channel.

His new life is a lonely one, until new neighbour Stéphane turns out to be offering more than just a helping hand with his vines. But when the love of Adam’s teen years, Sylvain, appears on the scene, Adam must decide exactly what, and who, he really wants.

"Gay fiction at its best...explores contemporary sexuality through characters who live on after the last page is turned." (Chroma Journal)

"Swallows and Amazons but with boy-on-by sex...a world simultaneously wholesome and sexy, and ultimately a charming combination." (Melbourne Community Voice)

Difficult to put down!

There is no doubt about that!!
I am no experienced reviewer, but my headline comment totally reflects my response to ,'Blue Sky Adam' and Anthony McDonald's narration.

I had been totally drawn in to the world of Adam ,his friends ,his life and loves. Carried along on a rollercoaster of emotions as Adam had one challenge after another to face but still sailed through under the protection of a guardian ange,l I exclaimed aloud at unexpected twists in the story and then signed with relief when a next day was able to dawn and entertain.

Adam's friends, all with finely drawn characters, have love and loyalty etched into their hearts. It is that special, no,very special bond that kept Adam and Silvin together that shines in the heart of this tale.It is that which made my ow pound, which made me sigh with relief when another challenge had been confronted and survived. I simply did not want my experience to end.
Plot, variety, Anthony's wit, pin-point precision in his choice of words, descriptions of a world that lies just across the Channel, all kept me on tenterhooks and in a world of enchantment.

Start with 'Adam, then on to Blue Sky Adam. There is a third which I hope to, can't wait to access in a few minutes! Above all, ENJOY!!

Subtle and riveting

Mr McDonald’s prose is anyway a splendid (and, here, appropriately rather French?) combination of economic, honed exactness and sensuousness (and sensuality). In his revelatory reading here, the nuances are subtle, humorous, both ironically and sympathetically compassionate and altogether riveting. Characterisation is realistically differentiated and dramatic, narrative compelling without exaggeration and the all-encompassing sense of place vividly rendered . He plays on his own precise prose with refined musicality. Everything is emotionally involving and yet perfectly and exactly judged. Music is at the heart of this novel, its relationships and structure, so the apt and moving interludes, played by the author, speaking and replying to the text, are excellent, and much more than a seamless, atmospheric part of the whole. The three McDonald audiobooks so far are such a great pleasure: it is wonderful that there are more to come.
