A fantastic listen

A great story from William, which I really enjoyed. The narration as always from Bill was superb. I now need to listen to the next one.

Better than winning the lottery!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to inherit an amazing historical house and the money to maintain it? Cove Point Manor sounded fabulous and it had even been kept in good condition since it was last lived in, by a maintenance firm. Unfortunately I found the way in which Alex's inheritance found its way to him, a little too coincidental, but OK, I can ignore that.

Then, of course, once you receive this amazing inheritance, you suddenly attract all the scrounging friends and relatives, after their share. Brenda and Connie were no exception and they drove me nuts, as no doubt they were intended to do. Alex was amazingly tolerant, I'm sure I'd have lost my rag much sooner.

The narration by Bill Nevitt was well done, especially as there were many unnecessary repetitions of names, which always irritates me. I so wished the author would make more use of the words 'he' and 'she'. Mr Nevitt did a good job of both male and female characters and read at a comfortably steady pace.

The paranormal part of the story was quite entertaining, with Alex's Great (Great?) Grandmother lurking in mirrors and taking a dislike to the uninvited guests. I did get confused by all the Great Greats and never really got a hold of the Farnsworth family tree. Maybe this was printed in the readable version? I could certainly have done with a copy.

A little bit of an unconvincing ending for me, but all in all, an entertaining cosy mystery that wasn't scary or violent.

An entertaining read

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. The idea of inheriting a place like Cove Point Manor was exciting and I was happy for the main character Alex. The supernatural elements were fun rather than scary and I think it would make a good film.

But as I got to know Alex a bit better I started to dislike him and it spoiled the story for me somewhat. I know that some authors want you to dislike their characters as a plot device but I don't think that was the intention here. It will be interesting to see how I feel about him in the sequel.

The narrator was brilliant and his tone suited the book down to the ground.

Lighthearted entertainment

A lighthearted entertaining story about a young man who receives an unexpected inheritance, a wonderful mansion house. The house and grounds are beautifully described and the scenes from the past very evocative. There are some interesting characters including a supernatural twist and a couple of family “friends” everyone will love to hate. The narrator distinguishes between the characters extremely well - overall a very enjoyable listen. Looking forward to the next one!

Intriguing

I enjoyed this, it wasn’t scary as such but it kept me hooked & waiting to see what could happen. Especially with the visitors and the mayhem they were causing. But they were taught a lesson or 2! Then the paranormal side of things. Scaring the visitors & changing the atmosphere.
Well worth a listen or read.

A lighthearted novel about ancestry with a supernatural element.

Set in a long abandoned mansion on Long Island, USA, this is a tale about Alex, a man living in Canada, who discovers he is the sole heir to a fortune and a large estate in the USA.
The book follows his journey, which becomes complicated as two unwanted “hangers on” find out about his inheritance and set about wresting his fortune from him.
Alex is aided in his struggle by a lady property developer, Maggie, and the ghost of his dead great great grandmother.
The book is a really easy listen. The characters were engaging, the narrator was excellent, and I laughed out loud in a couple of places. I look forward to the next book in the series.

An enjoyable listen

I really enjoyed listening to this story. I was hoping for a little more tension with the haunting theme, but it wasn’t terribly scary.
Bill does a great job with the narration and tells the story well.
A nice, easy listen!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

Mystery and intrigue, what more could you want?

I enjoyed this book!!!
This is the first story I have read/heard by this author but it won't be the last. I heard it all in two days as it was a nice easy listen. The story was unusual and I enjoyed the spooky goings on.
Alex has inherited a haunted manor and when two unwanted guest turn up for a visit things get interesting.
The narrator was very good and really brought the characters to life and with the detailed descriptions it was easy to form a picture in my mind.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the narrator in exchange for an impartial review.

An amusing tale

An amusing book, with a bit of paranormal, funny episodes and some great characters. Alex inherits Cove Point Manor and soon his "friends" come to stay, however the resident ghost is not that keen on them. What follows is a story with amusing episodes , a romantic interest for Alex and a well narrated tale that brought to life the characters.

Sweet tale

This was an enjoyable tale about a young man discovering he had an unknown branch to his family who were multi millionaires and he'd inherited everything. The kind of thing I dream about happening to me on a daily basis! There were no huge surprises, but the story moved along at a good pace and the addition of Connie and Brenda kept my interest. Some of the dialogue was a bit stilted, but Bill Nevitt, narrating, did a great job with acting all the parts, male and female. I thought he was especially good as the mother and daughter duo, who managed to get right under my skin. All in all a satisfactory tale, well narrated. What's not to like?
