About this listen

Greg Dawson’s not sure which he regrets more - becoming a vampire or becoming a software engineer. Immortality? Not all it’s cracked up to be. The job? Way more headache than it’s worth, especially on those increasingly frequent nights when he’s overworked and hangry.

With a deadline looming and his hunger growing, he’s nearing the end of his tether. Then relief comes from an unexpected source - Zane Webber, the hot programmer Greg’s been fantasizing about for two years.

Disregarding company policy, Zane lets him feed, but kind of forgets to mention he’s got some weed in his system. The next thing Greg knows, he’s high as a kite...and he likes it. He wants more.

Except how much of that high is secondhand weed, and how much is the electric and undeniable chemistry between him and Zane?

That chemistry draws them back to each other again and again, and suddenly their downtime is full of sex, smoke, feeding...and emotions.

The only problem is Zane’s a mortal. If they’re in this for the long haul, then Greg has to either turn Zane or accept a future of watching him wither and die. Greg doesn’t want to lose Zane, but he also can’t stomach condemning him to this “life.” And if they can’t find some middle ground, they’ll have no choice but to let their love go up in smoke.

as great as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Nick J Russo is one of the top 5 narrators for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.
I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

A sweet and spicy short to make you smile

I loved this short story from one of my favourite authors. The situation was unusual which made the story stand out. It's very hot, with lots of sex scenes for a short, but not at the excitement of either the story or the romance. Nick J Russo did a fantastic job with the narration. The characters voices are perfect and the story goes beautifully. Loved it.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Vampires, gay spice scenes, weed, and working for a tech firm. All of these themes are wrapped up in a neat story and is performed very well. The story is hardly complicated but this is hardly Lord of the Ring wink.

Perfect story and narration

Wonderful story and concept, such a different way to think about vampires, I throughly enjoyed it. Nick J Russo’s narration was excellent as usual, bringing both characters to life, if I can say that!

All the ingredients for an amazing series!

I do a reread on this about 20 times a year. Every time I wonder why is this just a little short story when it has such amazing world building it could entertain me for years as a never ending vampire saga. This coming from someone who rarely likes vampires or never ending sagas. Rereading this always puts me in a mood for some awesome vampire series and after trying and failing to find something new that's similar, I just end up rereading Alice Winters' VRC books for the same vibe.
