About this listen
Blane is sick and tired of being everyone’s emotional sounding board. It’s his gift, but they don’t realize how much it hurts him, and how exhausted he is. With the sickness taking over and Sophie’s impending delivery, he knows he’s in for a hell of a ride when she has the baby.
When her water breaks a few weeks early, everyone is in a panic except him. He keeps it together for his queen. At the hospital, when things get too rough, he makes his escape only to run into the one woman he needs - his mate. When he realizes his mate is sick, he is determined to save her, but when she takes his beast, things go from bad to worse. Can he save her before it’s too late, or will she fall for the deception of Summerland?

The plot thickens....
This series is quite interesting. There is a tribe of half breed dragons who has been rejected by the pure breed dragons. Until they find their mate, these half breeds are weak and ill. This is the fifth book in the series, and it is time for Blane to find his mate.
As you can imagine, a paranormal story this short has a pretty standard structure. The couple meet, there is an issue with them coming together that they must resolve, one or both are saved from certain death and then they become an official mated pair. Rather than messing with a working structure, the author, Sarah J. Stone, puts a lot of effort into the details that make each story unique. Firstly the books really function on two levels, the micro-level focusing on the couple and the macro-level focusing on the tribe. The human mate always has some pretty insurmountable personal issues to deal with. In this case it is an aggressive form of cancer. Simultaneously the tribe has to continue to live amicably within Stratham while facing their enemies, led by the dragon council. These are macro-issues that essentially tie the whole series together.
Blane's story is sweet. The alpha female of the tribe is in labour at the hospital when Blane scents his very ill mate. They need to face each other and help each other grow stronger in their bond. Meanwhile, the assassins sent by the council in a precious book continue to target the tribe. At the same time more supernatural creatures are congregating in Stratham, attracted by the tribe's power. Clearly the larger war between good and evil is brewing under the surface.
