Summary

A simple game of chance results in Corinne Cooper’s best friend’s death and sets her on a collision course with a detective still nursing hate from the past....

Three years of lonesome widowhood leads Corinne Cooper to a simple need. She wants a man. She cons her friend Edgy Brewster into helping her find just the right guy. They visit a honkytonk, the biggest church in town, and a bingo parlor looking for an eligible bachelor. Nothing goes as planned. Now Corinne is the prime suspect in a murder and must prove her innocence. Any of the four men she has met could have committed the heinous act. But which one?

How did you let all this happen to you?

Corinne Cooper, married to her husband for 46 years and widowed for 3, suddenly decides she's lonely and wants to find a new man. Confessing this to her father weird friend, with the even strangers of Edgy, the two to trawling churches, bars and bingo balls for prospective partners until, suddenly, Edgy is dead and Corinne soon becomes a murder suspect. Characterisation is only skin deep and the whole is rather far fetched, but amusing (and I did like the lawyer who makes only two brief appearances - I could relate to him!). A fun, engaging murder mystery thriller, not to be taken too seriously, with rather vacuous and silly protagonists, but which still has tension and holds the reader's imagination.
Narration is by Becky White who has a great, velvety voice, with good expression, and well modulated. Her rendering of words spoken for coroner's good friend Edgy, however,is appalling. Originally English, the character's accent is supposed to be a little bizarre, being mostly overriden, but not so much that it is converted to a strange amalgam of Canadian and Scottish and totally cringeworthy, surely? Fortunately, this problem stops partway through the story.

Overall, it was an enjoyable light listen and my thanks go to the rights holder of Blame the Car Ride, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy.

Don't blame anything just sit back and enjoy

This is the first book by this author that I have listened to and I really enjoyed it. I like the way the tension builds up through out the book and it kept me guessing as to who the killer was, I did guess right but it was only a guess as there were plenty of suspects.
It has been three years since the death of her husband and Corinne is feeling lonely. Not sure if she is ready to put herself out there on the dating scene she turns to her friend Edgy for advice. She soon finds herself caught in a whirlwind as they go from a honkytonk bar, to a church, to a bingo hall on the look out for eligible men and a whole new side of her friend is revealed . This also has disastrous consequences when her friend in killed and the police think Corinne had something to do with it. People she once trusted start to look suspicious and without her friend and rock she has to dig deep to find her inner spunk and find the real killer.
I liked the narrator as she was easy to listen to and spoke clearly.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
