Summary

Charlamagne Tha God - the self-proclaimed "Prince of Pissing People Off", cohost of Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, and "hip-hop's Howard Stern" - shares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing one's truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness.

In his new book, Charlamagne Tha God presents his comic, often controversial, and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. Beginning with his journey from the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to his headline grabbing interviews with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Hillary Clinton, he shares how he turned his troubled early life around by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. Combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty at all costs, Charlamagne hopes this book will give others the confidence to live their own truths.

Amazing

Well read and just very precise and honest. I will read it again when I'm feeling a bit demotivated

Drive time encouragment

Never heard of Charlamagne but took the recommendation and did not regret it. Will look out for more from him. The way he tells his story there will be many relatable things for the listener. This comes across as a motivational listen on the right level as it's expected audience.

A bigger, better version of Breakfast Club

Would you listen to Black Privilege again? Why?

Yes, Charlamagnes story is more than the typical rags to riches story. Plus his humour and delivery makes the story even better.

What did you like best about this story?

His unapologetic attitude and ability to see the positive in every situation. Having listened to him on Breakfast Club for years, it was great to hear his full story in all of it's detail.

What does Charlamagne Tha God bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His voice and the way he explains the funny and wild situations he gets in.
The hip hop references sound much better when spoken as opposed to read

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I actually wanted my commute to be longer!!!

Any additional comments?

The Buffy story made me go and listen to his interview which was amazing.
Also good to have clarity on the Jay Z story.

Don't Shoot the Messenger. Loved It!

Not a fan of CthaG but excellent book. Great personal insights that are highly relatable to most Black people. As someone who's known for my directness, I fully appreciated his embrace and creative use of truth telling (and his honesty about when that resulted in borderline arse hole antics).
Whether you like him or not, the book is great - as they say, 'Don't Shoot the Messenger'. I for one have definitely taken the message, and now have a new found respect for Larry. Thank you for writing this, god.

entertaining and super honest exploration

really fun way to explore @cthagod's journey. would say that some examples given were used merely for context where they would have been really fun to explore in more detail (e.g. the interviews with Kanye).

either way, good read, but would be difficult to digest for many who are not honest with themselves and don't want absolute honesty.
