Not scary but a charmingly well written read
This is the first book I have read by Renee Wakefield . I went into the book blind not knowing anything about it than having a quick glimpse at the cover. The book itself is a great length for a quick read / listen and I heard it all within one afternoon. It is a slow burner but i encourage the reader to have patience. I love the way the author portrays Jack's character and tou can almost feel his awkwardness and invisibility. It is different to most supernatural books ... it is not scary or frightening but a wonderfully written charming book. i was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review

No-one ever gets less haunted.
Surprisingly, the synopsis is very thorough, giving a good idea of the story and it's main protagonist, Jack, so no need for further description.
Black Hotel is a ghost story, even a bit of a thriller, and there are some gruesome bits, a few chills and bumps in the night (literally), but mostly it's funny. It's a great story, a bit predictable, but it's the gorgeous characters that inhabit it which gives it it's charm. It is so easy to picture, too, so nicely sketched out were the surroundings, the old fashioned hotel and the inhabitants of the book as a whole. This picturing was ably assisted by the narrator, Caleb Dust, whose Australian accent only adds to the character as he individually voices protagonists and reads the story with gusto and full understanding. A fun and good performance.
This is a debut novel by author, Renee Wakefield. Pictorial, funny, quirky and even a little bit scary at times, this is definitely one to recommend. Hope we don't have to wait too long until the next

Not quite horror but still rather fun and interest
This isn't necessarily scary but this story is well written and easy to lose yourself within. Renee builds a world that is so charming and it really works. The characters are realistic and well written and the story flows really well. Caleb does wonderfully narrating this one and it is worth a read.
