Summary

The 9th novel in James Patterson's Alex Cross series. Alex Cross's first case since joining the FBI has his new colleagues perplexed. Across the country, men and women are kidnapped in broad daylight and then disappear completely. These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realises. They are being bought and sold. And it seems The Wolf is the master criminal behind this terrible trade and is bringing a new reign of terror to organised crime. Even as he admires the FBI's vast resources, Alex is impatient with the Bureau's clumsiness and caution when it is time to move. A lone wolf himself, he has to go out alone to track his new prey and try to rescue some of the victims while they are still alive. As the case boils over, Alex is in hot water at home, too. His ex-fiancée, Christine Johnson, comes back into his life - and not for the reasons Alex might have hoped.

Critic reviews

"If there really were human superheroes, Alex Cross would be at the head of the class...and, with each instalment in the series, Patterson makes sure his superhero gets bigger and better while at the same time becomming more vulnerable." ( New York Times)

Narrator OK. Great plot

I am listening through the Alex Cross series. Enjoy the story line, but the narrators really do not have a good voice range. The female voices in particular are poor.

My first audio book

I love reading James Patterson books but this is my first audio book. I've got to say I didn't enjoy the readers voice, but I'm willing to try another. Liked the book.

Gripping story full of twists and turns Alex cross confounded by his person life and red tape I listened well into the night and had to do the end 4 times when I fell asleep

Fantastic from start to finish.

Gripping story, easy to listen to. Love the narrator. As always a brilliant James Patterson story.

compelling, brilliant, great, tense,

My first in the Alex Cross books & once started on this couldn't put it down, gave up my crime night for this ebook (CSI, NCIS). Was on the edge of my seat with this book.
The narrator's deep voice added to the thrill of this episode. Did the russians impression really well. Did find one part hilarious ".(FBI)... took her into the kitchen to grill her" not sure if this was intended or not but I found it funny.

Not the best Alex Cross Book

I have read other Alex cross books and enjoyed them but this one ? Not so much. I don't think the narrator helped and will steer clear of him in future.

Missing

I am trying to listern to all the Alex Cross books. Unfortunately a pattern has developed that either the book is abridged for audio or Patterson doesn't finish the story. In this book he leave a collegue in a building being bombed and it's not mentioned again.... what happened to Sandy? Where were Nana and the kids taken, by whom how did they get back ?? This isn't the first time in this series that there have been gaps left, the worst was where his girlfriend is kidnapped for a year, has a baby and nothing is mentioned about it again.
