About this listen

The scalpel goes down. The gown is discarded. The chatter stops. Heads turn expectantly.

'Well, Doc, what happened? Have we got a murder on our hands?'

For more than 30 years, bodies have been Dr Marie Cassidy's business. The lucky ones have died peacefully in their own beds, surrounded by loved ones. But that's not always the case.

In her international bestseller, Marie invites us into the world of forensic pathology and her remarkable personal journey, from working-class Glasgow to being Ireland's head pathologist for nearly 15 years.

Involved in the most high-profile cases in the country, Marie shares the intricate processes central to solving modern crime, inviting you to go beyond the tape.

Follow her onto the scene of the crime and walk in her footprints - but don't touch anything.

Remember, every contact leaves a trace . . .

Real stories from person who experienced it

I liked explanations with real life examples, I learned a lot how forensic investigations are done.

Fascinatingly Honest

As a great admirer of Dr Cassidy long before the book I was thrilled to hear it in her own voice. A fascinating account of a very interesting life’s work. Honest from start to finish I couldn’t recommend this book more.

Mostly interresting

For me, the biggest draw back was probably down to the producer/editor(?) or whoever takes care of the spacing between paragraphs. Sometimes the gap is so short it's more suited to a sentence break than a paragraph and I was left going "huh?" until I twigged the subject had changed.
A little bit lacking in places and sometimes felt more like a lecture on processes rather than specific events the author had encountered but overall it was enjoyable enough.

Factual and informative

Once I got used to the narrator (authors) accent then it was an excellent listen.

Very interesting

A little glimpse into a career we only see in artificial form in Silent Witness! I normally don’t like authors narrating their own books, but this was well done.

Incredibly interesting

Apart from the author reading fast and yes you can slow it down in audible, her pauses in between paragraphs need to be slightly longer as it is easily missed when she goes into a new sentence potentially about something else. This book is interesting and riveting in places and is a worthwhile listen . Thank God for Science and people like this author who with their expertise can tell the story of the dead and bring Justice.

Loved it

I was sceptical at first but soon got into it.
I loved the mix of stories and nuggets of wisdom.
I’d be really keen for the next book, if there’s going to be one…

An excellent forensic pathologist, but…

I’m fascinated by the subject, and this book does contain some fascinating cases. But, outstanding pathologist as she undoubtedly is, Dr Cassidy isn’t an audiobook narrator, and I’m afraid it shows. It’s a perfectly readable account of an eminent doctor’s career, but on this occasion I think I would have been better off getting the print edition.
