About this listen

The audio edition includes clips from documentary material and interviews gathered by the author during her time spent travelling and living with various cults across America.

Devastatingly moving, brilliantly inspiring and utterly unforgettable, Cult Following is a searing memoir of survival, love and transformation.

Bexy Cameron was in her late 20s then the dark events of her past finally caught up with her.

Bexy was born into the Children of God, one of the world's most notorious cults. She was nine years old when she experienced her first exorcism, held in a secret commune deep in the British countryside. At 10, she was placed on Silence Restriction, forced to be silent for a whole year. Even from an early age, she knew what was happening was not right. At the age of 15, she escaped, leaving behind her parents and 11 siblings.

Haunted by her past, Bexy set off on a road trip across America, embedding herself in the underbelly of religious cults, living with children who, like her, are born into the worlds their parents and cult leaders have created for them.

It is a journey of meth cooks, monks, Jesus Freaks, soap-making Armageddonists, surveillance vans and finally, confronting her parents and herself.

One All Encompassing Listen

Hard to fathom why any parent would allow Children to be treated in this way.

Are Cults bad?

One thing you can say at the end, is Bexy Cameron is one brave, strong and open Human being

fascinating story

Bexy is really relatable as an adventurous, forward thinking, ambitious, free spirit, it's a stretch of the imagination to imagine someone like her being born into and brought up in a cult and testament to her that she managed to unshackle herself so well from everything she had been entrenched in.
It's a sad story but also exciting and just very intriguing for us 'Systemites' . I found it totally addictive listening.

Very interesting and well narrated.

Great narrator! Fascinating insight into life growing up in a cult and then visiting other cults as a journalist. I would highly recommend!

A fucked up road trip

I hate to say entertaining but although the story is dark there's a humour and realness to this help as it's narrator is also the author. loved this book I hope there may be more from Bexy Cameron one day.

Brilliantly read. Amazing how she came through it

Incredible life, not always the good kind. Amazing that any of the kids survived that to be quite honest. Real Eye opener.
