About this listen
A dark night. A darker secret.
On a cold, dark night, two cars collide …
Inside the vehicle at fault, Jennifer Ashby survives with barely a scratch. In the wreckage of the second, the occupants are not so lucky. Jennifer’s good character helps her escape jail, but she is traumatised by the event.
Desperate for a change, and with her marriage buckling under the stress, she convinces her husband Jon to move to the beautiful but wild Daintree region, far away from family and friends.
As Jon spends long hours at his new job and Jennifer makes plans to absolve her lingering guilt, cracks begin to form in their idyllic new life. Will the shadow of their past continue to haunt them? Will their dark secret be exposed?
A captivating domestic thriller for fans of Sally Hepworth and Liane Moriarty.
'Thoroughly absorbing, sharply plotted ... a formidable new talent in the twisty domestic thriller genre.' - Nicola Moriarty
'Propulsive and gripping.' - Ali Lowe
'Taut and atmospheric.' - Petronella McGovern

Great story line and narration
Really enjoyed it. I love that it was set in Australia and could just imagine the heat and crocodiles

Disjointed?
I know this has a lot of good reviews, but I found it to be disjointed and stressful most of the time. A lot of the plot points had no real bearing on other parts of the story, and the ending felt rushed. I struggle to keep listening to controlling/abusive conversations, even if it is speeding along to a particular ending. But perhaps this just isn't the right genre fit for me.

cleverly intriguing
what not to expect, twist and turns, or cliffhanger, but a very clever way at looking at cohesive behaviour. if you either don't know or don't believe, this will make you see

It’s hard to say what held my attention but it did!
The story, unlike most I listen to, was like listening to a friend talking about her relatively normal life (or so it seemed) apart from the aftermath of the accident…
It has lots and lots of detail which paints the scenes excellently. I didn’t find them boring at all and I’m not usually into detail but prefer action. The story meanders along but all the time there is a sense that something was going to go wrong.
I liked the characters. They were real. The story was joyous and tragic, hopeful and desolate but the main character provided the strength to see it to its conclusion
The big reveal was a little underwhelming but actually, it didn’t matter. The joy was seeing Jennifer getting there and having good strong female friends around her.
And….. the narrator was excellent

A good story
I really liked this. Not massively predictable and depicted northern QL well. I think for a free audio book you could do a lot worse. Narrator was good although sounded a lot older than the character she was playing.

I don't really understand the title... Husband and wife yes. but husband's and wives?
