About this listen
Drew Presley's wife was murdered while he was serving his country in Iraq. Giving up a career he loved, he's returned to Dauphine Island to care for his son and try to make a new life for them. The unsolved murder of his wife continues to plague him.
The islanders are very protective of their own, and he fears a killer is among them. The more he searches for answers, though, the more dangerous it becomes. Just as troublesome is his attraction to his son's second grade teacher.
Trudy Walsh was Nora Presley's best friend, so the bond she has with Nora's motherless child is only normal. And when Reed's father begins to volunteer on the set of the spring play, she begins to second-guess the stale relationship she is currently in. Drew's obsession with his wife's murder threatens their friendship when he begins to suspect a fellow islander.

Impressive Narrator
I've read the book previously and was very happy with this narration. I've not listened to this narrator before but I would happily choose another book by her, she stands up more than favourably with narrators used by large publishers that I have frequently had problems with due to issues such as persistent mispronunciations, flat tones and an inability to distinguish one character from another and far oustrips the poor narration I've found in other self-published books, which I was coming to think was a distinguishing feature. The narrator had a clear voice, good rise and fall and emotive qualities and you could clearly distinguish the disparate characters.
The book itself is a competent romantic suspense that carries on the mystery from one of the previous stories in the series, although you do not need to have read it. No insta-love but what felt a natural progression from attraction. One slight warning is that this is obviously an inspirational romance, quite a few references to God and prayer that will not suit everyone but it's not too "in your face" about it and I've certainly [part]read books that were so overt that they were unreadable for anyone not evangelical Christian.
So on the whole very happy, it certainly won't be to everyone's taste but it does work well as background while you're doing other things.

Intriguing story!
I absolutely love the Wounded Heroes series. Each book, original and brings not only a good, inspirational story, but visibility to just how much our veterans go through keeping us safe. This story is especially wonderful because it features a single dad, and it's a trope I truly enjoy. Drew comes home after his tour of duty. He come to stay because his wife, Nora, was murdered and he needs to be home for his son Reed. Trudy is Reed's teacher, and after a rocky start, these two become friends. The island they live on is small, and everyone knows everyone's business. So you would think it would be easy to find out who killed Nora. Anne Patrick gives us intriguing twists and turns that kept me listening. I had my suspicions, but in the end she surprised me! And I absolutely loved the kids. Reed and Billy made this story very real and brought a little levity to serious scenes.
Narrated by Leonor A Woodworth continues her narration of this fabulous series. I love her voice, and every story she narrates is wonderful. Her voice is comforting, her voices easy to distinguish and she is a pleasure to listen to.
