About this listen
In Berman's Confession, the second part of the Jed Berman novel series, Berman comes clean about what has driven him to pursue investigative journalism since he got in the business. As the story unfolds, Berman follows his old news director, Fred Demarco, to a job in Maine, and embeds with local Maine soldiers in Afghanistan, where he earns an assist for the shooting of a young Afghani soldier. Berman's guide in his reflections on why human beings are so brutal to each other is a pot smoking, professional student who goes by the name Doris. As his confession comes to a close, Berman believes Doris has guided him to the answer he seeks. Doris disagrees.
Berman will return in Part Three of the series, Berman's Future. The story opens with Berman in the twentieth year of a coma induced by a car crash. If he wakes up, he'll face a world of robot surgeons and self-driving cars, plus unethical researchers who have their eye on Berman's brain. Now living in Maine, Berman is clearly older but not necessarily any wiser.
