Summary

He's the hot, grumpy goalie I had a crush on in high school...and now I'm his live-in assistant.

After my ex crushed my dreams in the music industry, I’m done with getting my heart broken. Working as an assistant for an NHL player was supposed to be a breeze, but nothing about Jamie Streicher is easy. He’s an intimidatingly hot, grouchy jerk who can't stand me. The guy has a massive ego. Keeping things professional will be no problem, even when he demands I move in with him.

Beneath his surliness, though, Jamie’s surprisingly sweet and protective.

When Jamie learns how bad my ex was in bed, his competitive nature flares, and he encourages and spoils me in every way. The creative spark I used to feel about songwriting? It’s back, and I’m writing music again. Between wearing his jersey at games, rowdy parties with the team, and being brave on stage again, I’m falling for him.

He could break my heart, but it might be worth it.

Behind the Net is a grumpy-sunshine pro hockey romance with lots of spice and an HEA. It’s the first book in the Vancouver Storm series, and can be listened to as a stand-alone.

Tropes:

  • grumpy sunshine
  • slow burn
  • boy obsessed
  • pro hockey
  • forced proximity (boss vs. assistant + roommates)
  • spice coaching

Bit boring

Started off quite good, needed more humour and a better storyline if I’m honest. The ending couple of hours were really hard to get through

Brilliant audiobook of a 5⭐️ book!

I was lucky enough to receive an audio arc and arc copy to review but it’s all my opinion!

Below is my review of the book, but this audiobook is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The dual narration of the chapters is PERFECT for this book, and the voice actors (artists- sorry I’ve never received an audiobook before) were spot on. All emotions and energy I got reading the book were perfectly performed!

2023 has been the year of hockey romance - and Behind the Net is a 5⭐️ addition to the genre!

Grumpy X sunshine with brilliant tension and full on Labrador-esq pining. Pippa and Jamie’s story instantly grabs you, and with an entertaining background cast of team mates and friends I cannot wait to read more from this series in the future.
HEA and *lots* of spice - another fun read from one of my auto-buy authors.

Hit and miss but more miss…

I really wanted to like this book but I didn’t find either character particularly likeable. The storyline was quite weak and the concept of an aspiring singer who just needs to be told they’re good enough over and over is quite tired and made me cringe out loud.

reread this on audio and my gosh it was perfect!!!

the narrators were so perfectly suited for each character. Jamie was gruff and pippa was shy soft and cute. lovedddd it. thank you stephnaie for the code!

put a man like jamie in athletic shorts and sweatpants and im gone

let me just say, SO 👏🏽 DAMN 👏🏽 AMAZING 👏🏽. JAMIE 🩷✨🤩🥹 AND PIPPA IS SO CUTEEEE MY HEART. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. im obsessed.

JAMIE IS SUCH A SOFTIE. THE WAY HE SUPPORTED HER AND PUSHED HER TO ‘get back on the ice’ AND PURSUE HER DREAMS. I LOVE HIM. beautiful green eyed boy. his love for her was so strong and you knew deep in your bones he would do anything for her. i loved the way he dealt with his mum too, really beautiful!!

pippa was such a cutie. I’m so happy she learnt her true value and did what she wanted to do not what her parents did! jamie and pippa’s relationship was perfectly balanced in the way they were there for eachother. the setting was fun, hockey and forest walks etc, loved the little community of his hockey team and her sister tooo. AND DAISY IS THE CUTEST DOG. THE WAY JAMIE SAW HER AND DIDNT WANT TO KEEP HER BUT KEPT HER BECAUSE NONE OF THE SHELTERS WERE GOOD ENOUGH 😭😭 you know a man is good when he treats his dog right 🥹

‘For you songbird? Anything’
deceased. he calls her songbird. HE CALLS HER SONGBIRD. SONGBIRD. SONG👏🏽BIRD👏🏽

CANNOT WAITTTTT FOR MILLER AND HAZELS BOOK. GOING TO BE SO GOOD <spoiler> I’m glad Jamie and Rory sorted stuff out and hope their relationship gets stronger again </spoiler>
also looking forward to ward and Jordan. I mean you know it’ll be good when he’s a hockey coach and she doesn’t care about hockey 🫠
this series will be so good and I’m prepared to fold like a piece of paper for stephanie archer men.

reread: im OBSESSED 💐❤️‍🩹🏒🥅🎤

this was a hot mess

I just.... he is instantly possessive, she is so incredibly naive. he has been pineing after her since highschool. and she's been pineing over him since then too... but they never say anything to eachother... also 70 chapters???? why on earth did this get 70 chapters???? the paceing is also suuuuuper weird. also.... Who told her it was unprofessional to cry in the studio? the real spicy doesn't start till after chapter 30. before that they fool around but she STILL doesn't think he likes her... what?? this book was a waste of credit 🤷🏽‍♀️
