Very enjoyable

Very well read and informative! Patricia Routledge's ,down to earth narration was well suited to Beatrix Potter's 'no nonsense' approach to life.

Brilliant reading by Patricia Routledge

In the 1990's Patricia Routledge toured in a one-woman play about the life of Beatrix Potter- "Beatrix"- to great acclaim. Later, the play was recorded for BBC Radio 4, but it is not available to buy as a cd or on Audible. However, this recording of Judy Taylor's excellent book is a wonderful alternative to the play, and being a reading rather than a dramatisation, includes far more information. Patricia Routledge's reading is perfect.

Absolutely lovely.

This enchanting biography of Beatrix’s life is read quite beautifully, compassionately, and sensitively by Patricia Routledge. It is a beautiful escape from our daily travails and you feel genuine sadness when the last chapter arrives in the book describing the last chapter of Beatrix’s own story. Highly recommended.

Bittersweet story

Judy Taylor has done an excellent work of this Beatrix Potter biography, narrated in style by the redoubtable Patricia Routledge. Judy gives us detailed information about Beatrix and the characters and animals featuring in her life, paintings and writings which are not available from other sources. Causes of flaws in Beatrix and her brother Bertram's characters can be traced back to their childhood and family life, offering a possible explanation for them. Whilst not always loving Beatrix as an individual, understanding the parental and social opression under which she lived untill she had her own funding made me sympathetic to her struggles. The personal losses and ill health she undured made me empathetic toward her. Good business acumen and a strong intellect mark Beatrix out as a special individual who had great forsight which was the platform for her philanthropy: and we enjoy it to this day.

Listened whilst in the Lake District

This proved to be a delightful and informative audio book whilst holidaying recently in the Lake District. The perfect narrator for this story and I could visualise it all.
