About this listen
Elusive online journalist Scott King examines the chilling case of a young vlogger found frozen to death in the legendary local ‘vampire tower’, in another explosive episode of Six Stories....
In the wake of the 'Beast from the East' cold snap that ravaged the UK in 2018, a grisly discovery was made in a ruin on the Northumbrian coast. Twenty-four-year-old vlogger Elizabeth Barton had been barricaded inside what locals refer to as 'The Vampire Tower', where she was later found frozen to death.
Three young men, part of an alleged cult, were convicted of this terrible crime, which they described as a 'prank gone wrong'.
However, in the small town of Ergarth, questions have been raised about the nature of Elizabeth Barton's death and whether the three convicted youths were even responsible.
King speaks to six witnesses - people who knew both the victim and the three killers - to peer beneath the surface of the case. He uncovers whispers of a shocking online craze that held the young of Ergarth in its thrall and drove them to escalate a series of pranks in the name of internet fame. He hears of an abattoir on the edge of town, which held more than simple slaughter behind its walls, the tragic and chilling legend of the ‘Ergarth Vampire'.
Both a compulsive, taut and terrifying thriller and a bleak and distressing look at modern society's desperation for attention, Beast will unveil a darkness from which you may never return....

Great
What can I say, I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way it was written in the style of interviews. To me this book felt believable and that was key to drawing me in. It touches on how society is for some people who are on the quest for likes on their latest social media posting.

Best so far
I've enjoyed all the books in the series so far - but this is probably my favourite. The six witness structure naturally allows for big reveals and changes of direction - but the author plays out the clues and plot twists particularly adroitly. (Mind you, the fictional Scott King is very slow on the uptake!)

JUST WOW!
I have to say this is the best audio book I have ever heard. I love Matt Wesolowski's Six Stories, but this has a real edge over the others. The characters seem very real and I love the way the story developed through the six different perspectives. But added to the suspense, there are real sound effects, such as birds singing in the forest, even the weak internet signal in the final podcast felt authentic (I thought it was my phone playing up!). No spoilers but this is such a weird and wonderful saga. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Best of the 6 Stories Series so far
First don’t be taken aback by the new Scott King narrator - you soon get used to it.
Beast is a clever story which does come together at the end. Though it is fairly obvious from quite early on, the web is woven as the book progresses to tie all stories & characters together well. No spoilers - loved the ending.
Good narration by all the actors .
Societies fascination with social media gives credence to the premise of the story. Wannabes & haters, jealousy & greed, revenge & validation, neediness & hate, adoration & manipulation are all covered.
Good pace to the story. Pulls you in as it develops.

Interesting premise but bad voice acting
I enjoyed the premise and there were some intriguing characters, but I felt the voice acting let the overall experience down. Some of the accents were executed poorly and drew me out of the moment whilst listening.

very enjoyable
Not as frightening as Demon but gripping all the same. Well written, brilliantly narrated (only one dodgy accent😆) and very neatly tied up at the end. Can't wait to start the next one

Best Yet!
I struggled for the first story because Scott King had been replaced with another performer. After a while though I settled into it and by the end I preferred him.
Excellent story, talented voice actors and even the YouTube videos were annoying enough to be real ones. If you're a fan you mustn't miss this one.
I love that there is always a supernatural edge to these stories that really draws you in. This is the 70s British horror I grew up with. MW seems able to conjure it up in a real way. I'm such a massive fan.
5* want to start it again.

Favourite of the series so far
Definitely my favourite of the 6 stories series so far.
I think the main narrator changed, but for me it’s a good thing as I prefer his voice and performance, it’s less wooden.

Creepy story with creepier people
This was very well done. Though I guess I'm a little bloodthirsty because I wanted more vampires to pay in the end.
