Summary
After five grueling years, Robert Worth is just days away from making partner at a powerful Santa Monica law firm. When a client confides in him that senior partner Jack Pierce sexually assaulted her, Robert breaks two of his mentor's cardinal rules: Never let yourself get emotional about clients. And never make an enemy of Jack Pierce.
Robert crosses Pierce and is fired on the spot, losing not only his job but also his reputation. Advised to go quietly, Robert vows revenge against the ruthless man who betrayed him. But his investigation uncovers a twisted shadow world of sex, infidelity, and deception, where nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted. Only one thing is clear: Pierce will go the limit to keep his secrets.
This straight shooter will need to use every angle if he hopes to win. But could victory come at too high a price?

Didn't realise lawyers had to be superhuman
I enjoyed the first two thirds of this, but in the end the antics of the two lawyers just lost my interest. Both the good guy and the bad guy seemed to be able to work for days on end without ever sleeping, pick themselves up from car crashes, drive hundreds of miles, escape death by inches, and carry on like that without even feeling tired. As well as being extraordinarily cunning, well read, professionally successful, attractive to women ....I've met lots of lawyers, but these are superhuman.

Slow start
This is a little slow to start, but once it starts it’s a very good book.

Silly but mildly entertaining
James Cronin does a good performance with clear diction and discernable characters. His voice is well paced and modulated.
The story is a decently paced legal thriller with only a few action scenes. Which is fine because the plot maintains the tension. Also on the plus side is that the characters are not competing for the entire world like so many books.
The cons are that the story is a bit convoluted to the point of silliness. Someone has a hold over someone else but decides to change sides whilst someone else is standing up for principles, or are they? Meanwhile the second party is conniving with a third person to doublecross the first person. Or are they?
However it passes the time.

Legal thriller
This is a juxtaposition between a legal drama and a thriller with a smattering of violence thrown in. Not quite Grisham but enjoyable enough that I will look for another by this author. Narrator a bit over dramatic but ok.
