Summary

The autobiography of the legendary sports promoter Barry Hearn.

'I am the largest sports promoter in the world. I promote 11 sports to a global audience of billions of people every day of my life'

A larger-than-life working-class hero, Romford born and bred—always ready with the perfect soundbite—Barry Hearn was famously described as 'roguish but never a rogue'.

Hearn is credited with turning snooker into one of the biggest sports in Britain. He essentially turned a sport in which competitors wear bowties into a massive globally televised event. Away from the table, his promotions empire casts its net over a dozen sports—from professional boxing to darts, fishing to 10-pin bowling—and his career spans four decades. He also previously owned Leyton Orient football club.

Packed with hilarious anecdotes from the golden age of snooker, and behind-the-scenes insight into boxing negotiations and darts bust-ups, Hearn's book is a joy to listen to from start to finish.

A good insight into some of the countries top sporting events

As a West Ham fan I’ve always thought of him as a conceited d**k. Having listened to him I was right. But you have to admit he has earned the right to be for what he has done, and for doing it himself. Rich as he now is, he is honest about where he came from, some failures, and generous in crediting those who have made him along the way. It turns out he is one of your own, even if he wears the wrong colours.

Excellent

I really enjoyed Barry Hearn’s narration , I relived many sporting moments as he creatively described the scenes. Steve Davis, Denis Taylor, Anthony Joshua, the Ally Pally.
I operate from the same playbook, look after your staff and management and always tell the truth , it’s easier. Hopefully I’ll meet Barry someday in the future.

Fantastic!

Probably the best biography I have read. Tell a lot of it is from the heart. Great to hear Barry's story in his own voice. Family,Money,Sport in no particular order.

An Amazing Human

Biography’s and autobiographies, especially self authored and self read are the glue of resilience.

Whether you have read autobiographies by public figures before, Barry’s story, an entrepreneurs story, a business man’s story, once again shows us the resilience by the humility of knowing and sharing why we are never “self made”

“My Life” can help us truly understand the tools we need to live our amazing lives.

Barry deciphers 10 principles from his illustrious, amazing life and career, which has span decades, and translates through the nuances of consumer to creator how to be extraordinary amongst the ordinary.

His family stories are super entertaining, especially the way he met his wife, and how he and his wife have navigated and nurtured their children’s lives, with the rule of “Think Poor”

What I loved was the confidence, the drive, the passion, and most importantly, the awareness. Awareness of self, which through this book, I found reads as self awareness.

If he was an American business mogul, the title of this book would be “outwork.”

Barry drives home the message that his successes were predicated through perseverance and persistence from the vision, but nothing works unless you do the work…and have a shit ton of luck along the way.

Another second mountain story which embodies the value of other people.

I’m one of those that grew up in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s and I remember the surge of snooker, darts, and boxing with “Hearn” at the helm of the fabric that stitched them altogether.

A purpose driven read. It’ll have you laughing out loud and feeling the pain of the losses of the beautiful humans he had around him.

Proper Pay Per View material this.

Very insightful

I have always have an interest in the life of Barry and Eddie Herne, this book proves to be worthy of every single penny spent on. The book gave an insightful nature of the man and his life, his bravery, intelligent and most importantly his principles. It is no surprise to see the success he accumulated and how his children turn out to be.
